Chapter 34 Save Me, Christopher
Chapter 34 Save Me, Christopher
Diane had a dark and gloomy nightmare from which she couldn’t wake up. In her dream, she was
running through a dark forest with wet brambles under her feet and a dark and starless sky above her
head. Meanwhile, a monstrous beast chased her from behind with its large and fierce-looking mouth
open. Even though she ran with all her strength, she couldn’t find the exit.
In the end, she fell to the ground. As the sharp end of the grass and broken branches pierced her body,
the monstrous beast bit her with its sharp fangs.
“Aaaah…” Diane screamed, her arms flailing about continuously as she wriggled in agitation.
“What’s wrong with her?” Christopher asked Erin with a frown while grabbing Diane’s flailing arms at
her bedside. It was the next afternoon, but Diane never regained consciousness ever since she had
been rescued. She slept very soundly at first, but she gradually began to be so restless and agitated.
Erin packed her medical kit as she looked at Diane—who was on the bed—with a look of sympathy.
“Miss Cornell is traumatized. The warehouse’s basement was cold and damp, and her health wasn’t
well taken care of after her previous miscarriage. Her current sickness is coupled with her old ailment,
and it has resulted in a fierce bout of illness. Her mind is now confused because of her fever.”
The furrows in Christopher’s brow deepened as he gently held Diane’s arms down and put them back
under the quilt. “When will she get better?”
“That is hard to say. I would suggest that you let her take this opportunity to rest a while longer at
home, Mr. Wayne. It’s easy to recover from her illness, but it’s hard to recover from the sequelae of her
miscarriage. When I examined Miss Cornell last time, she told me that her waist never stopped aching
these days. If her condition goes on with no recuperation, her illness will remain uncured for a long
time.”
“Is there such a thing? Did she tell you that?” Christopher was surprised by this and felt slightly
uncomfortable. Why didn’t she ever say a word about it in front of him?
Erin did not say much and merely shot a glance at the bedside table with a smile. “The pills that she
has to take are placed here. I’ll be leaving first.”
“Okay.” Christopher nodded before shifting his gaze back to Diane’s pale face.
“No… Don’t come over…” Diane was still struggling anxiously. Even though her eyes were tightly shut,
the look of fear on her face was obvious.
Christopher shifted forward and sat next to her without unknitting his brows even once. After staring at
her for a while, he raised his hand and caressed her face, using his fingertips to move away the messy
hair on her face.
Just as he was about to move his hand away, he saw Diane’s lips moving again. Her words, though
barely audible, escaped her lips. “Save me… Christopher…”
Christopher froze for a moment. As he stared fixedly at the dainty woman in bed without blinking, time
seemed to have frozen at this very instant. Perhaps because the warmth of his palm gave comfort to
her, she quieted down a lot after uttering that cry; eventually, she lay there weakly like a delicate rag
doll.
After a long time, Christopher withdrew his hand before he pulled the quilt up. Then, he got up and left
the bedroom. When he reached the stairs, he saw Scott standing on the first floor waiting for him.
Christopher’s eyes were as chilly as blades made of ice when he came downstairs. “How is Norman?”
“He’s fine. The stab that Mrs. Wayne gave only hurt him slightly, so his injury is nothing serious; he
merely screamed as if he was severely injured. I had him sent to the police station after his wound was
treated briefly at the hospital. He’s locked away for the time being, but I wonder what you’d like to do to
him…” Scott asked inquiringly.
Christopher let out a cold snort. “Does this kind of scum need to be released? He kidnapped my wife
and tried to extort 50 million from me. Isn’t this amount sufficient for him to be jailed for the rest of his
life?”
“All right, I got it. I’ll arrange for that right away.”
“Tell those people to take ‘good’ care of him,” Christopher ordered in a chilling tone while he walked
toward the sofa. After he sat down, he held up a cup of tea and took a sip of it. “What about the
company? Is there anything important?”
Upon hearing Christopher’s question, Scott was stunned for a moment. A while later, he cautiously
reminded the former and said, “You have made an appointment with Mr. Lynch of the Hummingbird
Group to discuss a collaboration in the next quarter at 3.00PM today.”
“Is there even such a thing?” Christopher raised his brows.
Scott was speechless. Has he completely forgotten about the appointment? This is so rare—since
when did President Wayne ever forget about his work?
Just as he was thinking about it, he heard Christopher speaking. “Just cancel it. Find a suitable excuse
and explain it to Mr. Lynch.”
“All right.”
“Go through my schedule over the next few days when you go back. If there are any engagements that
I must attend, put them off for a few days. If the engagement isn’t that important, just attend on my
behalf.”
“Huh?” Scott was totally stupefied. Meanwhile, Christopher glared at him in displeasure. “What’s up
with your response? Shouldn’t I take a few days off to rest?”
“You should, Mr. Wayne!” Are you going to take a rest, though? Scott thought to himself, but he
naturally didn’t dare to say this out loud. After receiving such an order, he went out and looked at the
sky before he muttered, “Will wonders never cease?”
…
Diane didn’t wake up until that night. When she opened her eyes, the lights were off in the room; it was
dark except for a light that was on in the solarium.
When she looked toward the light source, she saw Chris sitting under the light in the rattan chair. He
was dressed in white loungewear with his face facing outward and his back to her. He seemed to be
looking at something as his head lowered slightly, but she couldn’t see his face. All she could see was
his short, inky black hair which shone faintly under the light.
After staring at him for a while, she completely came to her senses. She recalled the scene before she
fainted, how Norman violated and humiliated her, and how Christopher arrived in the nick of time.
After a long while, she finally lifted her weak body and got up. The rustle she made while feeling for her
slippers with her feet disturbed Christopher as he was reading a book. Once he put down the book
casually, he got up and turned around. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Are you awake?” Christopher’s tone was imperturbable. By the time he slowly walked up to Diane, she
had already found her slippers and stood up. “How is Norman?”
Christopher’s face darkened suddenly as this was the first sentence she uttered after regaining
consciousness. He taunted in a chilly and sneering tone, “You really care about this ex-husband of
yours, don’t you? What do you want him to be?”
Diane was rendered speechless for a moment by Christopher’s remark. Even in the dim light, she
could see the chilling glint in his eyes. “No, that’s not the case. You’ve misunderstood me,” she
explained hastily. “I want to ask what happened to your money. You didn’t actually transfer money to
that overseas bank account of his, did you?”
The woman before Christopher’s eyes looked very sincere as if she was really thinking of his interests.
Can she be trusted, though?
“Have I misunderstood you? Is that really so?” Christopher suddenly stretched his arm out and
wrapped it around Diane’s waist. Diane was feeling dizzy in the first place since she had stood up with
great difficulty. As soon as Christopher wrapped his arm around her waist, she fell into his arms at
once.
“Well then, tell me why you went back together with Norman!” Christopher lowered his head and stared
at the woman who was lying face down on his chest like a koala. He was taking care of her, but this
didn’t mean that he had gotten over the matter between her and Norman.
Diane almost had the whole of her body pressed against Christopher’s chest. As they were so close to
each other, his hot breath made her feel dizzy. Consequently, she was distracted and forgot what she
should say.
“Do you have nothing to say?” Christopher’s tone grew increasingly chilly as his arm tightened around
her waist. “Are you regretting your decisions and thinking of getting back together with him?”
