Chapter 17: Your Fake Smile Is Disgusting
"Roland?" Thomas was calling him from the end of the corridor.
Roland came back to his senses and turned around.
He left the door of Alvera's ward and walked towards him. "Mr. Earhart, what's up?"
Thomas looked at the door of Alvera's room, concerned, and said, "Andrina is awake and wants to see
you. Can you go see her?"
Roland put his hands into his pockets and started to walk away.
He took a few steps, then looked back at Thomas as if he had thought of something.
"Mr. Earhart, did you adopt Alvera because she has the same blood type as Andrina?" he asked.
Thomas did not expect that Roland would ask this question.
He remained silent for a while before nodding. "Andrina wasn't sick at the time."
...
He sighed and continued, "Several relatives on Andrina's maternal grandmother's side passed away
from a genetic liver condition, including her own brother. When Andrina was born, we were afraid that
she would have the same condition, so we found Alvera and adopted her."
"Did Andrina know about this?"
"She didn't. She never knew."
Roland looked at the expression on Thomas' face and then turned around to see Andrina.
After being in ICU for ten days, Andrina was also transferred back to the general ward.
By that time, Alvera had already recovered well.
She could now walk on her own without any help.
When Andrina was sent back to the general ward, she was walking around in the corridor,.
Andrina was escorted back by her parents and Roland.
Before, she was sent down here by a nurse, all alone. Both scenarios contrasted sharply.
Roland saw her from afar.
Their eyes met, but her expression was indifferent.
She had not seen him since she was transferred back to the general ward.
She only looked at them briefly before going back into her private ward.
Suddenly, Luna called out to her. "Alvera."
Alvera gritted her teeth, stopped, and turned around with a faint smile.
"Alvera, it's all thanks to you that Andrina has recovered very well. She wants to invite you to dinner as
thanks after she is discharged from the hospital," Luna said.
Alvera smiled and said, "We don't even know when Andrina will fully recover. Alvera's appreciation
dinner would be meaningless if we wait for too long, so why don't Mr. Francois treat me in place of
Andrina?"
Luna froze for a moment, looking at Alvera coldly.
"How dare this little girl fight back," she thought.
"We can't possibly trouble Mr. Francois, he's not part of the Earhart family," she said.
"I don't think Mr. Francois would mind, right, Mr. Francois?" Alvera replied, smiling at Roland.
...
Andrina frowned and glanced at her mother, displeased.
Roland raised his eyebrows and said, "Okay, you decide the time."
Thomas glanced at Alvera coldly and pushed Andrina into the ward.
At the door of the ward, Roland looked back at Alvera without even thinking about it.
She was squatting by the wall with her back to him, one hand holding the wall for support and the other
covering the side of her abdomen.
He frowned. Was this woman an idiot? Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Why was she walking around when she wasn't feeling well?
After Andrina was settled down, he left her ward immediately.
Alvera was no longer in the corridor.
He walked over to the door of her ward and looked in. Alvera was lying on the bed with her back to the
door.
She was just staring blankly out the window.
When she heard the sound of the door opening, she closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
She did not feel like talking.
Roland walked up behind her and said, "I know you're not sleeping."
Alvera opened her eyes and turned, laying flat on the bed. She smiled. "Hi, busy man. Long time no
see."
"Have you asked a doctor for a check-up?" he asked.
"What?"
"Weren't you unwell just now?" he said in a displeased tone.
Alvera paused for a moment and stared at him, before smiling half-heartedly. "That's normal, I'm not a
god after all. A 10-centimetre wound will take some time to heal."
...
Roland's expression turned cold when he saw her smile.
"Stop smiling. Your fake smile is disgusting," he said.
"No one asked you to come here and see me smile, Mr. Francois. You can choose to turn a blind eye,"
she said, and then she turned her back to him and closed her eyes.
...
Roland gritted his teeth, frustrated. He had never met a woman that could drive him crazy as she
does.
