“Lysander!”

Josiah called out her name, abruptly standing up. He frantically began to search for her, looking in the bathroom and the hallway, but she was nowhere to be found. With his hair disheveled and eyes reddened, he dashed around the vicinity of the hospital room, losing all sense of decorum.

Early in the morning, the hallway was filled with relatives of patients who had just returned from the cafeteria with their meals. Seeing his frantic state, they all stopped in their tracks to watch.

What on earth happened?

Josiah seemed oblivious to everything around him. After confirming that Lysander was not around, he rushed to the nurse’s station at the fastest speed possible. He found the nurse he had met the day before and asked. “Lysander is missing, have you seen her?”

His voice trembled, his eyes filled with bloodshot veins, clearly indicating he had encountered something significant.

“No.” The nurse grew anxious and quickly turned to ask her colleagues nearby. Upon learning that no one had seen Lysander, she added, “Dr. Thorne always has a precise internal clock. Perhaps she’s feeling upset and went downstairs for a walk. Why don’t you go look for her, and I’ll–”

Before she could finish her sentence, Josiah had already taken off like the wind, heading straight for the small garden downstairs. He didn’t even wait for the elevator, opting instead to take the fire escape.

Josiah descended the steps at breakneck speed. He nearly missed a step but didn’t pause for even a second, instead, he pushed on with his sprint. By the time he reached the small garden beneath the residential department, a metallic taste filled his mouth.

He had run too frantically, and with barely any water consumed the day before, his throat was so parched. that even breathing felt like swallowing a knife.

Most of the patients in the hospital were particularly careful about their health. Early morning was the coldest time of the day. Hence, there was hardly anyone in the small garden.

Josiah, undeterred, made several rounds, even going as far as to grab the few elderly men around, asking them if they had seen a young girl with long hair. Only after receiving negative responses did he, as if waking from a dream, head back to the outpatient department.

He almost forgot, Lysander did have acquaintances in the hospital.

In a fluster, Josiah dashed straight to Lynn’s office. Rather than saying he pushed the door open, it was more like he barged in. “Has Lysander been here?”

Lynn had just finished her call with the nurse and was placing her phone down. When she saw him panting heavily, as if his soul was about to flee his body, she immediately understood what was going on.

“She left.”

Upon seeing that Lysander had encountered no mishaps or sought to end her own life, Josiah felt a slight sense of relief. However, this relief nearly caused him to collapse from exhaustion. Fortunately, he managed to support himself against the door beside him in time, preventing a fall.

The door was teetering on its hinges, the very same one he had mistakenly slammed into before, under the assumption that Lysander was pregnant again.

Pointing to the chair across from her, Lynn reminded him, “The door was just fixed not too long ago. If you can’t keep on your feet, why not sit down and let me explain everything? Dr. Thorne asked me to tell. you that she has no other intentions, She just wants to find a place where she won’t be disturbed. She wants to be alone for the time being.”

Josiah released his tight grip from the edge of the office door, taking several deep breaths to steady his emotions. His voice was hoarse as he asked, “Did she mention where she was going before she left?”

“No.” Lynn shook her head.

Josiah was relentless in his questioning. “Not a single clue?”

“No.” Seeing his growing despair. Lynn carefully recalled the conversation she had with Lysander. Then, with a serious expression, she relayed it to him.

“However, Dr. Thome did leave me with a message for you. If you are to persistently seek her out, she wants me to tell you to focus on your work and life, engage in meaningful activities, but above all, to not seek her out.”

As soon as the words were spoken, the silence in the office was so intense it was almost frightening-

Josiah kept replaying the events of the previous night in his mind, finally realizing, albeit belatedly, that something was amiss.

Lysander probably woke up long before he lay down for a nap, but she didn’t open her eyes because she didn’t want him to notice her movements.

If only he had noticed her unusual behavior earlier.

Josiah closed his eyes in agony. When he opened them again, his aura had significantly diminished. He bid farewell to Lynn, then returned to his sickroom and dialed Laura’s number.

It took quite a while before the call was answered.

Josiah immediately asked, “Mrs. Thorne, you-”

Josiah, it’s me,” Michelle interrupted.

Josiah paused, anxiously asking, “Where’s Mrs. Thorne?”

Maverick was already gone, it was crucial that nothing happens to Laura.

Several days had passed, yet Michelle still choked up as she spoke. “My mom had insomnia last night, she just fell asleep. If you have something to say, you can tell me, and I’ll let her know when she wakes up.”

Laura was still deeply immersed in the sorrow of her husband’s passing, unable to move forward.

After a brief pause, Josiah spoke again. “Michelle, you’ve been working hard these past few days.”

He was worried that if he rashly asked if Lysander was at Maverick’s hometown and she wasn’t there yet, it might cause unnecessary concern for Michelle and Laura. So, in the midst of it, he had a rare change of heart and dared not ask any further.

It was Michelle who sensed something was amiss from his unusual silence.

“Josiah, you wanted to ask about my sister, didn’t you?” She steadied her voice, which threatened to break into tears at the mention of Lysander, and said, “My mother and I have already returned to our hometown, preparing for my father’s funeral. However, my sister isn’t here, she only called when dawn was just breaking.”

After receiving a call from her eldest daughter, Laura heeded her advice. She stopped obsessively looking at the last photo she had with her husband and retreated to her room to rest.

Josiah subconsciously tightened his grip on his phone. “Can I know what she told you?”

Michelle responded truthfully, “My sister told me that she is going to take a long vacation. She asked my mother and me not to worry about her. After that, she didn’t say anything else.” NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

Apart from not bidding farewell to Josiah, Lysander had thought things through very thoroughly.

There was a prolonged silence on the other end of the line.

After waiting for quite some time, Michelle couldn’t help but ask, “Is there anything else?”

“No,” said Josiah, his voice barely returning to its calm state. He spoke with a weighty seriousness, “Your sister is a sensible person. If she made these arrangements, it means she has thought it through thoroughly. You and Mrs. Thorne need to take good care of yourselves.”

Michelle grunted in agreement.

The words spoken were quite similar to those said before she ended the call with Lysander, but she didn’t interrupt, instead she just quietly listened.

Josiah genuinely wanted to take good care of Lysander’s family, but with the great distance between them, all he could do was say, “I’ll hang up now. Remember to contact me anytime if you or Mrs. Thorne need anything.”

Susan had sent people to look after Laura and Michelle, but he knew they wouldn’t stay there for long. Once Maverick’s ashes were buried, they would return. He was worried that Michelle would try to tough it out on her own. Only after receiving assurance did he hang up the phone.

Without Lysander, the ward felt even more desolate than before, a silence that sent a chill straight to one’s

heart.

Josiah was reluctant to linger any longer. After making a call to have someone take care of the aftermath, he immediately drove off to his company without a moment’s rest. Now, it was his turn to keep busy.

During his absence from Guerra Group, Carol had been meticulously managing the company affairs. Once he learned about the specific events that had transpired, he couldn’t help but let out a sigh

“Mr. Guerra, should we send someone to investigate your wife’s whereabouts? Regardless of where she has gone, if she used any form of transportation, there will inevitably be traces left behind. She doesn’t want you to go looking for her, so we won’t. We’ll just watch from a distance, ensuring her safety is what matters

most.”

Carol was also quite concerned about Lysander’s situation.

Josiah was just about to tackle his backlog of work when he paused and said, “She probably doesn’t want to
