Chapter 853 Chloe Was His Lucky Star
Chapter 853 Chloe Was His Lucky Star
Joseph narrowed his eyes. He swiftly turned the steering wheel and reversed his car.
When his pursuers were unable to catch up, they whistled sharply and numerous people emerged from all directions.
Their positions had been carefully planned out. Some of them stood in front of Joseph’s car while others stood behind it. The closest ones were about five meters away. They had darts in their hands, and their goal was to puncture the car tires, and then get rid of him.
Fortunately, the car that Joseph was driving today had been specially modified for durability. The first dart did not pierce through and was deflected. The second and the third darts had similar outcomes. However, as they switched to sharper and more lethal darts, Joseph's brow furrowed.
Pop! Fssh!
The sound of deflation echoed as a tire burst. The darts pierced through the tire, causing it to lose air completely. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
Joseph tightened his grip on the steering wheel and quickly dialed Vince’s number.
"Joseph, I advise you to surrender now. We'll give you a swift end," the leader taunted, a cigarette dangling from his mouth in a boastful manner.
Apart from their elite members, Duskfall had also contracted foreign special forces Noah had provided. No matter how formidable Joseph was, it would be difficult for him to escape from so many people. They were determined to end him today.
Joseph scoffed coldly, "You think you can handle me?"
"Don't play tough." The leader saw Joseph reach for his phone and shrugged indifferently. "There's no signal here. You won’t be able to make any calls. Forget about calling for reinforcements and save your energy."
They had chosen this location and were naturally fully prepared. The signal here was practically nonexistent, so there was no hope of making a call. Joseph either had to reach Skyreach Memorial Park or turn back the way he came.
Judging by the situation, neither route seemed feasible.
"Is that so?" Joseph looked at them tauntingly and shook the satellite phone in his hand. "I'm sorry to disappoint you but I already got through."
He intended to tell Chloe about the news of the child at the first opportunity. However, the signal on the mountain was poor and there was no Internet connection here, so he had switched to a satellite phone before leaving home today to easily contact her. He had not expected it to become his lifesaver.
Chloe was his lucky star.
"Sir, did something happen?" Vince's voice rang out from the phone.
"I ran into Duskfall on my way to Skyreach. Bring some guys over," Joseph replied.
The group was stunned when they saw that Joseph was using a satellite phone. One of them shouted at the driver, "Quick! Ram his car! He has to die today!"
As the words fell, a deafening roar echoed, followed by the SUV accelerating rapidly toward Joseph. Joseph's car had its tires punctured long ago, leaving him with no chance to escape.
Fifty meters… Thirty meters…. Twenty meters… Ten… Five!
As the SUV got closer and closer, Joseph's expression became serious as he jumped out of the car. With no road ahead and a cliff behind him, staying in the car would only result in him being crushed like a sandwich.
Bam!
A tremendous impact echoed through the valley as both vehicles suffered varying degrees of damage. Thick black smoke billowed and steam hissed. Even the people in the SUV were cut and were wounded. If Joseph had been inside his car, he would have been severely injured.
Nonetheless, he was still in a dangerous situation.
The leader was not angry. Instead, he grinned and waved, leading the others as they approached Joseph. He sneered, "Still not going to surrender? You’ll meet a very unpleasant end shortly."
Joseph was well aware of his current situation. Without hesitation, he took off his suit jacket for better maneuver and assumed a defensive stance. Determination was written all over his face. He was not afraid of death, but he feared never seeing the woman he loved ever again. So no matter what, he had to hold out until Vince arrived.

After receiving the call, Vince appointed a trusted member of his team to accompany Lucas. He himself immediately led his men toward Skyreach. On the way, he called Joseph, but no one picked up.
