Chapter 231
Chapter 231
Candice’s expression immediately darkened. “Ivor Dawson, what are you doing here?!” she
shouted.
Originally blocked by caregivers and doctors, Ivor’s head whipped around at Candice’s voice.
His face had several wounds, and a glint of determination could be seen in his murky eyes.
The caregiver, relieved to see Candice, spoke. “Miss Renault, I’ve been trying to call you, but you didn’t
answer. This person came and said he wanted to go into the ward to see Mr. Sundance.”
“I want to see how he’s doing. He’s my father–in–law!” Ivor said loudly, his expression stern.
Candice’s gaze was icy. “Ivor, what exactly are you in Dorrington for?”
Her heart felt cold. Ivor coming over was definitely not just for the sake of seeing her grandfather.
“Does Yvonne know you’re here?” she asked.
Ivor spat vehemently. “Don’t mention that damned woman to me!” His voice echoed loudly in the quiet
hospital corridor.
Candice’s brow throbbed. “If you have something to say, let’s talk downstairs.”
There were many patients on this floor, and some ward doors were already open, with heads
poking out to watch.
Candice turned and left. She knew that Ivor had come
to
see her.
She quickly sent a message to Hanley. She had no trust in Ivor. If any conflict arose, she would
definitely be at a disadvantage alone.
With so few people in the hospital at night, Candice stopped outside the inpatient department hall,
where occasional passersby could be seen.
Ivor followed her down. Without outsiders around, he dropped the pretense. With a smirk, he
asked bluntly. “So, when are you going to transfer the money to me?”
Candice’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Why should I give you money?”
“Just based on the fact that your damned mother is now in my house, with another useless burden!”
Ivor stared at Candice. He licked his lips, his tone fierce and menacing. “I just asked the doctor. The
medication for that old coot upstairs costs ten thousand a day. Why waste this money on him? He’ll die
eventually, and it’ll all be wasted!” He bared his yellowish–black teeth. “You might as well show some
filial piety and give this money to me, your dad! Your mom is my wife.

You should call me dad.”
The
e words were repulsive and Candice said grimly. “Wasn’t the lesson I gave you last time enough?”
Last time in Noxville, Ivor had been reported to the police by Greg and Alex.
At the mention of the incident, Ivor’s expression turned malicious. If it hadn’t been for that, he
wouldn’t be in the position he was in now.
If he didn’t have a criminal record, he wouldn’t have been led by those people to cause trouble. In the
end, they had all run away, leaving him to bear the blame.
He had foolishly believed that Candice was wealthy. If he couldn’t get the money, they would
cripple him!

If he hadn’t borrowed money, he might have become a cripple already.
The more Ivor thought about it, the more uncomfortable he felt. He thought about the debt
collection calls and the daily pounding on the door when he was at home, and he gritted his teeth.
He stormed up to Candice. “Lesson, huh? Let me show you a lesson! You damned woman, with so
much money, you’d rather give it to that old man than show some filial piety to your dad!”
Candice listened to his incessant references of himself as her father, her anger rising. However, she
remained composed, knowing that confronting Ivor head–on would not lead to any benefits.
She subtly took two steps back, staying alert in case Ivor lunged suddenly.
Despite her guarded posture, her tone wasn’t friendly. “Don’t compare yourself or Yvonne to my
grandfather. Yvonne isn’t worthy, and neither are you.”
Ivor’s face had completely darkened. His long–term alcohol abuse made him prone to explosive
emotions. He grinned maliciously, his words dripping with venom. “Do you know why that old man is
half–dead? That’s his own doing! Your mother is a bitch, and your father is a scoundrel. It’s karma! Why
did he have such a damned daughter to plague me?”
Ivor’s words became increasingly vulgar and offensive, targeting not only Yvonne but also her
grandfather.
Candice’s bottom line was her grandfather. She lost her sense of reason, and slapped Ivor across the
face with all her might. Candice stood, trembling with anger.
Ivor’s head turned from the force. He felt the rusty taste of blood in his mouth, his lips cut…
He turned back, staring at Candice. His voice became hoarse and terrifying, as if it came from a demon
in hell. “You bitch! How dare you hit me? Do you want to die!” He practically roared the last
word.
Candice looked around, but there was no one nearby. She wanted to call security, but Ivor was already
sending a punch in her direction.
Candice instinctively dodged, but Ivor’s hate–filled fist hit her shoulder hard. It felt like he had
smashed her bones..
Candice was in so much pain that she was unable to make a sound. Ivor did not stop. He grabbed
Candice’s hair, about to drag her.
Although Candice was in agony, she managed to react. She bent down to avoid Ivor and kicked him
squarely between the legs. She ran, pale–faced, clutching her shoulder, making for the
hospital lobby.
She had used all her strength. Ivor bellowed curses, curled on his side on the floor, holding his crotch
and groaning in pain.
Candice’s face was pale from the pain and fear. She took a look back and saw that Ivor was still
sprawled on the floor, his face contorting in pain.
She forcefully composed herself and took out her phone to call the police.
There was a sudden ‘ding‘ from the elevator behind her, followed by the opening of its doors.
The sound of shoes tapping on the ground became unusually distinct in the quiet hospital lobby.
Candice instinctively looked up, locking eyes with a pair of frosty and indifferent gaze.
Alex exited the elevator expressionlessly. He had a set of documents in his hands. His gaze landed on
Candice for a moment and then he looked at Ivor who was still lying on the ground.
There was no emotion that showed on his icy cold face, but Candice felt a lot more assured.
At least someone had come.
“What are you doing?” Alex’s cool voice rang out.
Ivor’s breathing turned heavy as he forced himself to get up. He gritted his teeth as he lumbered his
way over. “Fuck you bitch! I’m going to kill you!”
Candice’s shoulder was in extreme pain. She bent her waist slightly, almost unable to make a sound.
