Chapter 89
Chapter 89 Her Father
The news was too shocking, leaving Emily unable to come to her senses for a long time.
It wasn't until the waiter filled the table with dishes that she still felt somewhat dazed.
"Emily?" Mr. Satan called gently.
"Huh?" Emily snapped out of it, realizing they were the only ones left in the private room. "Where are they?"
"They were gone," Mr. Satan said. "They didn't dare to confront me."
Emily felt somewhat disoriented. She grabbed Mr. Satan's hand, incredulously asking, "Was that man really Morgan? Did you know he had married Sophia's mother?"
"Emily, calm down first and listen to me," Mr. Satan said, gently stroking her back. "I knew this news would be difficult for you to accept, so I haven't told you. But unfortunately, we ran into them today. You would have found the truth sooner or later, and I'd rather be here with you than have you face it alone."
Emily shook her head lightly. "Twenty years ago, Sophia's mother left, and Morgan left my mother because they were already having an affair?"
"There's no evidence, and only they know what happened between them. My people could only find out they got married five years after your mother's death. What happened between them in those five years, no one knows."
Emily had lost her appetite. Her mind was in turmoil. She had often fantasized about what it would be like to reunite with her father and had thought that perhaps his departure had been for a good reason. But now, the truth was right in front of her. How could she accept it? And what if her family found out the truth? How would they be affected?
"Don't you want to eat?"
"I... I've lost my appetite."
Mr. Satan didn't insist. Instead, he placed a bowl of porridge in front of her and gently persuaded, "You still have a baby in your belly. This porridge is easy to digest. Have a try."
Emily obediently took a few spoonfuls but couldn't taste it at all.NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
The next morning, when Mr. Satan got up to go to work, Emily prepared breakfast for him as usual.
Mr. Satan stopped her. "Have a good rest today. Don't worry too much. I'll have bodyguards protect your father. Even if Grace and Sophia want to see him, they won't be able to step into the hospital room." Emily could only nod.
"I'll call Olivia to come and keep you company."
Not long after Mr. Satan left, Olivia arrived.
Emily hadn't had time to change her clothes and opened the door for her in her pajamas. "You're here."
Yawning, Olivia, with half-closed eyes, said, "Emily, I'm so tired..."
As soon as Olivia entered, she collapsed on the bed, complaining, "Mr. Satan is so cruel! He called me at six-thirty in the morning to come and keep you company. I've never woken up this early."
Feeling guilty, Emily said softly, "I'm sorry. He's just worried about me."
"It's okay," Olivia waved her hand. "Make me a meal and I'll forgive him. Food can solve everything." Olivia was an outgoing person, and her smile was infectious.
Emily chuckled softly. "Okay, then lie down for a bit longer. I'll go make you some food."
Olivia hurriedly grabbed her. "Hey, no rush. I want to figure something out first. Mr. Satan was in such a hurry to have me come over, did something happen? My dad told me that Nathan and Sophia's wedding is coming up soon. He received an invitation. You're not upset about that, are you?"
"... No."
"That's good then. You're not worth being sad over such a scumbag."
Olivia said. "Emily, what does it feel like to be pregnant? I've seen pregnant women in movies feeling nauseous. Do you have that?" Emily shook her head. "Not yet. I don't know if I'll have morning sickness later."
"Don't worry, Mr. Satan must have a way to make you feel better."
Emily raised an eyebrow. "You have such a good opinion of Mr. Satan?"
Olivia rolled her eyes at her. "With a jerk like Nathan around, Mr. Satan looks like a saint! From what I've observed, Mr. Satan treats you exceptionally well, almost like a father!"
"A father?"
"Yeah," Olivia said. "I wish I had a boyfriend like a father too! Emily, have you ever fantasized about what your dad would be like?"
Of course, she had fantasized about her dad.
She had been fantasizing since she was born.
"Maybe he'd forgotten about my mom by now and remarried and had children."
Hearing the hint of sadness in her voice, Olivia flipped over and tackled her, hugging her like a toy. "Emily, do you still want to find him?"
"No, I don't," Emily answered decisively. "If he could abandon his pregnant wife, it proves that my mom meant nothing to him. Why would I want to find him again?"
