Always Yours

Chapter 33

I overslept.

My parents had already left for work when I woke. I was rushing around the house trying to get ready. I had tried my hardest to forget last night. The embarrassment I felt, the hurt that he didn’t show up.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

He made me look stupid and I was pissed.

Pulling on my boots I slipped my arms into my jacket grabbed my bag and keys before rushing out the front door. This is why I was grateful my parents bought me a car.

I would have been super late if I had to get the bus. The bus that I had no idea how to get or where to get on. Shaking my head I frowned. I was getting distracted by my own thoughts.

Unlocking my car, I got inside placing my bag on the passenger seat. Reversing out the driveway I took off down the street my only focus being getting to school before my first class started.

But because it’s me and I have no luck I was late. Stopped at every red light, traffic on every road. By the time I got to school I was sweating. Rushing inside I ran to my locker collecting my books for English.

The hallways were empty. The only noise being my heavy breathing. I was so unfit. Reaching my class my stomach tightened with the thought of getting detention.

“Miss Stone nice of you to join us”.

A sigh fell from my lips as my eyes landed on Alice as I walked to my desk. Placing my backpack on the floor I kicked it under my desk before taking my seat.

“I overslept I’m sorry”. Opening my books I grabbed my workbook and a pencil. I had no idea what was going on.

“It happens Aubrey but don’t make being late to my class a habit. Read chapters 1 to 5”.

Romeo and Juliet.

Great another dreadful love story.

“I want everyone taking notes as you read. This book may become a big deal if I decide to use it for your book report”.

Alice sat behind me so when she tapped me on the back, I wasn’t surprised. I was still pissed off with her for leaving me yesterday at the diner. No one else mattered when Tommy was around.

Well, I was sick of it. Sick of feeling like she only wanted to hang out when things weren’t going well with him. Or she needed something from me or needed me to do something for her.

Yeah, I was going to lose my head at someone today. I could feel it.

“Hey”. She whispered. “Are you okay?”.

I wasn’t going to give Mr. Laird a reason to give me detention, so I ignored her. I read my way through the chapters taking as many notes as I could.

“Aubrey”. She whispered.

I shook my head hoping she’d take the hint. I wasn’t in the mood to get into trouble, and I didn’t want to have stay after school.

“Don’t stop at chapter 5. This class can be spent reading and taking notes”. Mr. Laird spoke.

In other words, he couldn’t be bothered teaching today.

Before I knew it class was ending, and we were packing away our things. I needed coffee, I was hungry, and I think I was getting sick. My head had been thumping since I got here.

“Are you okay?”. Alice asked.

Mr. Laird didn’t mind the chatter, but he only allowed it when class was ending, and the work was done.

“Fine”. I pulled on my jacket and put my books in my bag.

“Did you really oversleep?”.

“Yeah”. I made a face.

The bell went and I headed for math’s but first I stopped by the cafeteria for some snacks.

“Aubrey wait up”. She called after me, but I just kept walking.

I wanted her to know I was annoyed. She wasn’t the cause of my pissed of mood, but she was part of it. Today just wasn’t my day and I felt sorry for the person that was going to feel my wrath.

I rummaged around for some change and pushed for a packet of hot chips. They would tide me over till lunch.

“I’m going to put this out there and say you’re pissed off?”.

“I’m fine I have to get to class”.

She didn’t follow and I was glad she didn’t. She would push for me to tell her what was wrong, and I was afraid I would explode and cry and become a hot mess.

I cry when I’m angry.

Not to mention I had yet to face Franko. I was hoping he was out today, and I could avoid the embarrassment of bumping into him because if I did bump into him, I wasn’t going to hold back.

He was going to know I was done. I was finished with him and whatever this friendship was becoming. I could already feel myself becoming angry at the mere thought of him.

He thought he could make a fool out of me well he was wrong.

Neither of them was in my math’s class so I was safe for the next hour or so. Ben on the other hand was grinning at me as soon as I walked in the door.

“Bowling”.

“What?”. I frowned taking my seat.

“Do you like to bowl?”. He asked.

I shrugged. “It’s okay I guess”.

“A bunch of us are going tonight. Do you want to come?”.

“Yeah, that would-… Oh I can’t I have a shift at the diner”. It would have been nice to get out and socialise with other people. Maybe it was time I put myself out there and made other friends.

“Bummer. Maybe another time”.

“Sure”.

..

Lunch time rolled around, and I couldn’t wait to stuff my face. I felt sick I was that hungry. I had yet to run into Franko but since he wasn’t sat in his usual spot in the cafeteria, I figured he wasn’t here.

I waited in line hoping there was still pizza when I got to the front. Thankfully, there was. I picked 2 slices of pepperoni and a side of fries with a diet coke. I picked an empty table trying my best not to look over at Alice.

Like always she was sat on Tommy’s lap laughing at whatever they were talking about. Seeing that only made my mood worse. I wasn’t agreeing with Franko but maybe I did need to find other friends. She was too wrapped up in Tommy and only really needed me when something was wrong.

Taking a seat a sigh fell from my lips. As we all know I hated skipping school but right now I wish I was anywhere but here. Recently I just didn’t want to be here. School was the furthest thing from my mind right now.

I was halfway through my lunch and about to start a new chapter of my book when the chair next to me was pulled out. I wasn’t in the mood for company and I sure as hell didn’t want to talk to anyone.

“Princess”.

Looking up from my book I rolled my eyes. What could Tommy possibly want to talk to me about?

“What?”. I sighed.

“How come you ain’t sitting over there?”. He nodded towards the table he just came from.

“Because I don’t want to”. I made a face. Did he really just ask that? He knows I don’t like his friends.

A laugh fell from his lips. “You busy after school?”.

“Yes”.

“Working at the diner?”.

I nodded. “Is there something you want?”. I asked.

“Just to give you this and to tell you he’s sorry”.

My eyes landed on his before he got up from his seat and walked back to his table. There was a piece of paper folded in half with my name on it.

I already knew it was from Franko, but I didn’t care. I was done with him and done with this situation for good. Crumpling the piece of paper in my hand I lifted my tray and headed out.

I had suddenly lost my appetite.

Along with my unfinished lunch I threw the note away and didn’t think about it again for the rest of the day.

….

By the end of the school day, I was mentally exhausted. Lots of work and homework my brain was fried. I was putting my books in my locker when Alice approached me.

“You dropped this”.

It was the note I had threw away.

“I threw it away”. I frowned.

“Okay Aubrey what’s going on with you?”. She asked. “You’ve been weird with me all day”.

“I’m surprised you noticed”. I shouldn’t have said it, but I couldn’t stop myself. “I seem to only see you when you need something from me”.

“That’s not true”. She frowned. “I know I’ve been spending time with Tommy but what am I supposed to do he’s my boyfriend”.

“And I’m your best friend. Just because you have a boyfriend doesn’t mean you get to drop me and pick me back up when you feel like it”.

“That’s not fair Aubrey”.

I shrugged. “Life isn’t fair, but we get over it. I have to go”. I slammed the door to my locker shut and headed for the parking lot.

I was more than ready to go home and be done with today.
