Chapter 18 Her Choice
When Rejoyla entered the room, Burton had already been pacified by Nicolas. In fact, he had only made a gesture to hit and hadn't really touched Georgina. Burton was merciless to his sons, but he didn't have the heart to punish his daughters and granddaughters. And his only grandson too. When Frank tried to teach Jason a lesson back then, he had been hit by Burton's cane so badly that he was confined to bed.
Georgina saw Rejoyla standing on the side and felt regretful about her wretched appearance from avoiding Burton. Overcome with jealousy, she pointed at Rejoyla and rasped, "Grandpa, you don't know what I saw today. Rejoyla was trying to seduce Jason. She went to his room in just her pajamas. If I hadn't caught her, who knows what she would have done? I was angry about her indecency and wanted to teach her a lesson. Unexpectedly, she is so cunning that she deliberately rushed to Jason, and I accidentally burned him. Grandpa, it all arose from her. If she hadn't seduced Jason, the accident wouldn't have happened. We can't let this kind of person stay in the house. She'll definitely stir up trouble."
Once the words were out of Georgina's mouth, Rejoyla felt the heat of everyone's gaze on her face. Amazement, realization, contempt, and disdain were all present in their eyes. It was as if they couldn't wait to strip her bare and force her to accept their judgment. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Burton's scrutinizing gaze was sharp, making Rejoyla's cheeks ache. She dug her nails into the palm of her hand, and the sharp pain reminded her of the situation she was in. If she couldn't prove her innocence, not only would she be despised by everyone, but so would Jacquelyn.
Before Rejoyla could even think of a response, Jacquelyn was shaking with anger. "What do you mean by that? I know you don't like us, but don't even think about driving us away with such dirty
tricks. Even if you don't care about Rejoyla's reputation, what about Jason's? He is your sister. Forget it! Why am I even talking to you about this? Rejoyla, let's go!"
"Oh." Rejoyla felt that there was no longer any need for her to be there. Jacquelyn alone was enough to crush Georgina.
More importantly, she was weak-minded. If she truly had nothing to do with Jason, she would have slapped Georgina for the slander. But she had indeed slept in Jason's room the night before and couldn't refute Georgina with a clear conscience. She could only hang her head and play the part of an honest person.
Since Jacquelyn said so, she was more than glad to cooperate. She didn't want to stay at that place at all. The thought of Jason's incessant harassment and its negative impact on her mood made her want to move out as soon as possible. So, when Jacquelyn finished speaking, Rejoyla quickly grabbed her hand and led her to leave. "This is great, mom. Let's go back to our apartment. It's more convenient for me to go to work from there. Don't worry about anything. I'll get a raise this year, and we won't starve."
The joy on Rejoyla's face was so real that Jacquelyn couldn't speak. It also made Burton, who had been skeptical about it, disbelieve Georgina's words.
In an attempt to make Jacquelyn stay, he quickly said, "Georgina doesn't know any better, so please don't take it to heart. You are my legal wife and a member of this family. This is your home, so where else could you go? Alright, everyone can leave now."
Rejoyla's hand suddenly hurt as Jacquelyn's nails dug into her wrist. She looked up and saw the struggle in Jacquelyn's eyes. Rejoyla understood that she was torn.
Burton was clearly biased. Georgina had called Jacquelyn a vixen, but Burton still intended to smooth things over, which might make everyone know her low position in the family. Perhaps even
the servants in this house would disrespect her.
However, this was a way out for Jacquelyn. The rest depended on her choice.
