Chapter 40
It was past seven and Sydney was still laying on her bed, her alarm had rang for the third time now but she was finding it so hard to let go of her sweet dream.
The alarm dings again, this time it was louder, it was just as if God had intervened and she had to wake up no matter what. She squiggled tirelessly on her bed, moving her hand to the dresser to put it off.
“Urghhhh” Her hand smashed the alarm disturbing her beauty sleep, she didn’t mind where it had landed, she was happy that it went off as it was driving her crazy already.
She gets pissed and slides out of the covers, muffling cursing words as she goes about her day. She hadn’t gotten any sleep and the alarm was on already. How long has she even slept for the alarm to disrupt her sleep like that.
“Dang it!” She exclaimed the moment her eyes caught the big clock hanging on her wall. It’s past seven and she needs to hurry up.
“You’re few minutes late miss Sydney” Miss Dana teased as Sydney walked past her table.
“Good morning, miss Dana,” she shouted taking hasty steps before Paxton would walk out of his office and scold her for being late.
She saw some roses on her desk and gasp, “huh?” Her brows creased and she picked up the designed card that was laying next to the flower.
“Poor Jaxton, I’m sorry but you have to end up in the bin.” She folded her lips in a shrug and threw the flowers into the trash bin, dusting her palms as if she just took care of some dirt.
Her butts perched on her chair but she couldn’t concentrate on what she was working on. Jaxton will continue sending in flowers to her desk if she doesn’t do anything to stop it. This might attract unnecessary attention her way and Paxton would definitely hear of it.
No way, she has to stop it.
This will ruin her and she doesn’t want that but will Jaxton understand? Either ways her mind was made up, it will only be late when she doesn’t do anything.
She sent a text to Jaxton asking him to meet with her during lunch break.
Her insides made a jingle and her mood was suddenly tensed but she didn’t read meaning to it. She felt it was just her indigestion over the whole relationship thingy with Jaxton.
Paxton entered the marketing department in anger, he got to her desk and stopped, sizling her up with his bloodshot eyes.
Sydney gulped in panic, goosebumps slowly hopped on her face as she stared at her fierce CEO.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
She springed to her feets immediately, bowing slightly. “Good morning sir–” the words came out of her mouth with ease.
He said nothing and brisked into a seat opposite her. Sydney wasn’t sure what her new offense was but she was scared to the teeths.
“Sit.” He ordered, his tone low but cold as ice.
She folded her lips nervously and shoved into one, making sure to avoid eye contact with him. A shiver ran down her spine the moment her eyes caught sight of his tightened fist and the deep hollows in his neck.
He chewed slowly on his lips as he pushed out the dreaded words, “Are you dating my brother?”
The question was expected but when it came, it threw her into deep thinking. Will this be the end for her? Hell, she can’t imagine herself going back to the club it will break her.
Her face went from pale white to raw terror. Should she answer the question or ignore? But this was Paxton she was facing not a regular boss so she has no option.
“Do I need to repeat that?” His face was plain and held no emotion.
It felt as though he was going to draw his nails on her face if she doesn’t give him an answer sooner and she was scared to death.
“Yes,” she clovered, holding her cardigan tightly.
The next she heard was a loud bang, Paxton was beyond doubts angry and he bashed the table aggressively that one would think he had an issue with it.
“You wanted to see how far I could go, huh?” He howled, “didn’t I warn you to stay away from my brother! You’re just a gold digger and a bitch who thinks she can drive her way into our lives.”
“Sir–” the words died in her mouth the instant he glared at her. Her lips trembled to speak and defend herself but she smashed them tightly and sprung up from her seat.
“I’m so sorry sir, I promise I will break up with him. But please give me some time.. ”
He scoffed and rested his back on the chair, gigling to himself. “Can you hear yourself speak!!” He thundered, his voice almost sending her out of earth.
A cold grin dwell on his face and he gave her a passive look, “you don’t seem like the scared type so I wonder what’s stoping you from breaking up with Jaxton. I guess the job is no longer important to you–”
“Please sir don’t fire me! I swear I will leave your family alone just please let me stay.” She pleaded.
A wrinkle stole Paxton’s face as he leaned forward to touch her face, he held her chin and pouted. “Stop forcing out the tears gold digger!” He spat and dashed out of the office.
Sydney remained standing with her chin bent to the side, her eyes never left Paxton’s.
“Arghhhh, fuck me!” She cussed and fell down on her seat groaning widely.
Seconds later she was in tears. She couldn’t deny Paxton has a huge toil on her and she was just there taking in the blames.
Leaving Jaxton would solve everything, she would get her life back once she break up with him but still she fears another calamity might befall her once that happens.
