Chapter 31 Discover Her Identity
Chapter 31 Discover Her Identity
Margery grabbed the phone and tended to call the police by instinct.
Ms. Hall noticed and stopped her immediately, "That won't help. The police will dismiss this case since she hasn't been missing for 24 hours."
"What should I do?"
Margery was in a panic. Tears were hanging in her red, wildly open eyes. She was wandering in front of the darkroom, thinking about where her baby would go, whether he was scared or hungry, or was in danger…
She had already lost Andrew, and she couldn't lose Ethan again.
Ms.Hall was worried about the disappearance of Ethan, "I was just stopped over for a minute, didn't expect that he would run away quietly."
"Calm down. The security cameras show Ethan hasn't left the kindergarten yet. He must be in the garten."
The principal was a man in his 50s, who was more sensible than the two women in panic. He frowned and looked around, and saw the unlatched little door to the backyard, "Crap. He must go to the hill behind the garten."
The hill behind?
The unfrequented hill that was covered with trees and woods?
Margery was stunned, felt like she was grabbed by a giant hand, and fell down into the abyss suddenly.
"That's unreasonable! How can you allow a kid to such a dangerous place alone?"
Margery was burning with anxiety and rushed to the door without giving Ms. Hall and Mr. Gray a glance.
Ms. Hall was pale and said, "Mr. Gray, I…I was busying in pacifying Layne and Vivian and forgot to lock the door."
Mr.Gray gave her a serious glance and lowered his head, "This is not the time for accountability. Find more teachers with you and then go to the hill in search of Ethan. He is our priority."
…
"Ethan, Ethan! Where are you! Please come out!"
"Ethan… Please come out! Mom's so worried about you!"
"I know that you do this is take it out on me. Don't worry, I won't blame you or scold you, I always love you!"
"Please, don't hide from me, for which I will feel in pain and can't stop crying. The last thing you want to see is your mommy crying, right?"
In the forest, Margery was walking in the path covered with leaves and shouting her son's name anxiously. She shouted herself hoarse but found nothing.
The sun was sinking, and the sky was darker and darker. Once she realized that she had found no clue about Ethan, she felt helpless.
She had tasted this grievance before. Five years ago, when she lost Andrew, she felt her life had no meaning anymore. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
And now, was she going to experience this again?
Margery smiled wanly like she was crying. After stumbling for a long time, she recalled that she should call Melvin.
He was a good mixer with lots of friends. And he knew more about how to find a person than her.
Right, call Melvin. He must be helpful to her.
She held the tears and took the phone with her shivering hand. She was so frightened that she typed the number directly rather than search it from the address list.
Several seconds later, the call was taken.
Before Melvin could greet her in fun, Margery wept and said, "Melvin? Ethan is missing."
…
In the president's office of the Barrett Group, Golden laid down on his black executive chair with his eyes closed. Just now, the four hours' business meeting wore him out.
Suddenly, the phone on his office table rang.
The ringtone was played loud, but he didn't tend to pick it up immediately and just pinched his lips.
He picked up the phone after a while and answered it. Unexpectedly, it was not the sound of Vivian he heard, but another young woman's.
The voice was soft, and words were broken, reminding him of the woman who had disappeared five years ago.
The difference was, this woman was crying out to him, "Malvin? Ethan is missing…"
It almost convinced him that it was Margery telling him worriedly that Andrew was sick again.
Margery Byrne…
Margery Byrne!
Golden suddenly opened his eyes and read the number on the screen as a reflex action.
The former part of the phone number was identical to that he remembered, but the latter part was strange.
Just another woman who called the wrong number.
Golden hung up the phone in a daze, and his bright eyes were gradually dimmed. His mind was filled with sorrow.
Meanwhile, the door was opening slowly, and his assistant Pierson walked in with a phone in his hand. Ha approached the office table and said subtlely, "Mr. Barrett, it's the sixth time that Ms. Martin has called you. Would you like to take the call?"
Looking at the phone in Pierson's hand and the phone on the table he just picked up, Golden was puzzled. Then, he raised his head abruptly and said, "the phone in your hand, is that the one I routinely use?"
Pierson was confused, "Yes, Mr. Golden. You were not available to pick up the phone when busying in hosting the international meeting at noon, and then you deposited it with me. What's the problem?"
"So this one…" Golden squinted his eyes.
He had stopped using this phone when something happened to Margery.
In five years, he had been using a new number. He wanted to bury the old number with Margery in his heart.
At that moment, if he had been more patient with her, she wouldn't have been killed by that vicious driver.
To retaliate against him, the driver murdered her and Andrew.
In other words, he indirectly caused her death.
When something happened to Vivian, he hated her.
But when she died in such a miserable way, he suddenly realized in these three years she had become an integral part of his life.
But now, the phone, which had been silent for five years, rang tonight.
Perhaps, it was Margery who made the call.
No matter who was "Melvin" or "Ethan", he needed to find her out.
His eyes were gleaming. He took the phone, selected the only number on the address list, and showed it to Pierson, "Find out who its owner is, and where she is!"
It was the first time that he had seen Golden, a reserved man, become emotional for someone except Vivian. He nodded hurriedly, "Yes, Mr. Barrett."
