Chapter 9 An Unexpected Gift

“No… nothing,” Betty stammered out of anxiety and put the box behind her back. “It’s the same as yours. Well… I’ve got a tummy ache and should go to the bathroom.”

With that, she ran away.

In the cubicle, Betty sat down on the toilet and opened the exquisite gift box with great care.

Sarah and the others received brand scarves. Her gift was different. What was lying in her box was a

set of keys.

Betty picked up the keys. Before she could recover from the shock, her phone vibrated in her bag.

She checked her phone and saw a text message from the $5,000 debtor.

Betty made up the name when she saved Kerwin’s phone number. Who would have thought that her debtor became her husband in just one day?

She unlocked the screen and saw an address. The place was in the most expensive villa area of Chicago.

The address and the keys.

Betty tumbled to the situation. Kerwin wanted her to move in.

It was reasonable for him to have such an idea. A registered couple was supposed to live together.

Betty put the keys away in the bag, hesitated for a moment, and then changed the name of the contact into “husband”.

It was husband rather than hubby. Although both stood for marriage, the former sounded distant, just like their relationship.

After getting out of the bathroom, Betty went back with her colleagues.

A photographer had come along, and several photos of Kerwin had been taken during the interview. However, they didn’t dare to publish them without Kerwin’s authorization.

The editor-in-chief reached out to Kerwin and asked if they could publish the photos.

The editor-in-chief just tried his luck. After all, the CEO of Tylman Group was famous for being a mystery. They had been lucky enough that he accepted the interview. They couldn’t ask for more.

To everyone’s surprise, Kerwin agreed, and the entire office became a madhouse.

“Holy cow! That’s the photo of the CEO of Tylman Group we’re talking about! Looks like our magazine is going to make a fortune!”

“Eh, stop talking trash. Amy, show us the photo. Is he really so hot as Sarah said?”

Before Kerwin gave his authorization, Betty and the others hadn’t dared to circulate the photos in the office. Now people were swarming over to the photographer.

Amy turned on his computer and the photos of Tylman Group’s CEO appeared on the screen.

Once again, those female employees lost their heads.

“Wow! He is so hot! Sarah, your description was a total understatement of his charm!”

“Yeah, even those famous actors are outshone!”

“Eh, the chair Mr. Martin is sitting in looks strange. Is it… a wheelchair?”

Someone noticed the wheelchair, and the crowd quieted down. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

“Yeah,” Sarah said in a casual tone. “Mr. Martin is in a wheelchair, so what? He is hot and rich. That makes him Prince Charming!”

The other women echoed in approval, but several male employees disapproved out of jealousy. “Pfft, he is rich and hot, so what? Do you know that most men in wheelchairs are impotent?”

“Yeah, didn’t you guys say that he just got married? In my opinion, his wife is no different from a grass widow.”

Not part of the chatting, Betty was drinking water on the side. Upon hearing that, she choked and had a hacking cough.
