Chapter 265 Keeping Our Distance
"Alright, I won't say it, not again," Shawn said with his eyes curving.
Considering that his wound hadn't fully healed and he couldn't eat spicy food, Norah decided to make
spaghetti for him.
Recalling how he used to complain about her cooking skills, she searched online for the best recipe.
Opening the app, Norah typed in "Recipe for Spaghetti", and soon the screen displayed various
pictures that looked appetizing.
She reached out, about to tap on one of them.
Suddenly, a warm, robust hand wrapped around her waist.
Shawn rested his neck on her nape, gently blowing air and asking, "What are you planning to make for
me?"
"Spaghetti."
His gaze fell on the app she had just opened, and he couldn't help but laugh.
"Why are you laughing?" Norah asked, hearing it.
Realizing that the screen was still on, she quickly turned it off and hid her phone away.
The amusement in Shawn's eyes intensified. "It seems that you need external help to make spaghetti,
Miss Chase."
Norah denied it immediately. "No, I was just checking and studying the differences between their
method and mine."
"Did you find any differences?"
"I didn't have a chance because you came over. Aren't you hungry? Then let go of me. I'm going to
cook now."
Shawn was cooperative this time, and he immediately loosened his grip.
But then he spun her around and pushed her out of the kitchen.
With his hands resting on her shoulders, Shawn said seriously, "Alright, since you're not good at
cooking, leave it to me. You just need to look pretty, and I'll take care of the rest."
"But what about your wound?"
"Don't worry. I'll be fine as long as I don't engage in any strenuous activities."
Although he said so, Norah was still worried. What had happened back then was still vivid in her
memory.
But Shawn had already locked himself in the kitchen.
Through the transparent glass door, she could see the big figure bustling around.
He opened the refrigerator, taking out some eggs, tomatoes, and flour.
He performed every step with exceptional fluency.
Then a wisp of smoke rose from the stove.
Norah watched TV in the living room, waiting until she dozed off.
When Shawn came out holding a plate, he saw Norah leaning sideways on the couch, fast asleep. He
tiptoed closer, took a blanket, and gently covered her.
After finishing dinner, he washed the dishes.
Norah was still asleep. Shawn bent down, picked her up, and carried her into the bedroom.
But she woke up as soon as he placed her on the bed and covered her with a blanket.
She slowly opened her eyes, rubbed them, and asked in a daze, "How did I end up on the bed?"
Shawn scratched her nose with his finger and said indulgently, "Silly girl, you fell asleep on the couch. I
was worried you might catch a cold, so I carried you to bed.
"Burnout?"
Norah nodded. "I've got too much on my plate."
"Take a good rest so that you'll have enough energy to face tomorrow's work."
"But..." Norah pouted. "I haven't taken a shower yet. I need to wash up."
Shawn pressed her down, looking at her face. Suddenly, he had an idea and teased her. "I've already
helped you with that."
"What?" Norah was stunned.
Her face blanched and reddened. She glared at him and sulked. "How could you do that? We no longer
have that kind of relationship. How could you bathe me?
"Shawn, what am I to you?
"Do you think any man can undress, bathe, and dress me up at my place?"
Norah felt both angry and aggrieved.
Shawn was just making fun of her, not expecting such a strong reaction from her.
He immediately apologized, "Norah, I was just joking. I didn't bathe you, and you're still wearing the
same clothes."
Norah lifted the blanket and carefully examined herself. She was relieved to find that her clothes
remained the same and intact.
But when she looked at Shawn again, her tone became very serious. "Shawn, there are some things I
think I need to make clear to you.
"I currently have no intention of dating anyone, nor do I have any desire to have a boyfriend. I only
want to focus on my work."
Shawn lowered his gaze and nodded heavily.
"Okay," he said, with evident sadness in his eyes.
Norah forced herself to ignore his sorrow and continued, "It's getting late. You should go back to the
hospital and take a good rest."
"Yeah."
Shawn let go of her and turned around, walking heavily toward the door.
Just as he was about to go out, Norah suddenly called out to him, "Shawn."
He immediately turned around, his eyes flickering with ecstasy. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
"If you're careful enough, you will slowly heal without any major problems.
"Now that we have divorced and broken up, strictly speaking, we don't have a close relationship
anymore. From now on, we..."
Taking a deep breath, she summoned all her courage to finish her words. "From now on, we'd better
keep our distance from each other. It's inappropriate for you to come to my house so late."
When Shawn heard that, his bright eyes instantly dimmed.
The sparks within them quickly vanished.
He clenched his fist and looked at her, trying to say something.
But his mouth felt dry.
In the end, he uttered a low, hoarse voice. "Is this really what you want?
"You don't want to see me at all?"
Norah looked at him and nodded solemnly. "Yeah."
"We should move on and start our new lives, shouldn't we? From now on, we will be on separate
paths.
"When we got married, everyone was right in saying that we were never meant for the same world. I
was once naive and unwilling to believe it, and I tried desperately to prove it was wrong. But the truth
shows that we're indeed not meant for each other.
"So, we should return to our original tracks."
She took a deep breath.
Her heart hurt so much, as if it had been stabbed by knives.
But she managed to suppress it.
Shawn looked at her, his face filled with sorrow.
They just stared at each other like that, and time seemed to stand still.
Finally, he turned around and left without saying a word.
