Fated to the Ruthless CEO

Disappointed

“Devlin? You are here. Why did you never tell me that you are coming? I could have prepared something great for lunch, your favorite.” Marmee gave Devlin a big smile. She thought it was only Devlin who came to the farm like he used to do.

Amber was left standing next to the car on the other side. Her grandmother did not see her. But hearing her cheerful voice towards Devlin made her eyebrows cross.

‘Since when did they become close to each other? She must be missing something. Her marmee is not telling her anything. She has been visiting her but she never ever mentioned Devlin at all.

“Marmee, how are you? I missed you so much.” Devlin went to hug her and even planted a kiss on her cheek. Marmee just giggled.

“You just came here two weeks ago. I hope next time you come here, you could bring my Amber with you.” She said, still did not notice her granddaughter’s presence.

Amber was listening from afar and she is more surprised to hear about what her marmee just said. She was observing her grandmother and Devlin. They really are close to each other.

“Marmee, I have a surprise for you.” Devlin looked behind him. Amber finally showed herself to her grandmother.

“Marmee!” She ran towards her and hugged her tightly. “I miss you so much, marmee.” She said with tears. They are both crying now with happiness.

“This is a big surprise, my child!” Her marmee said excitedly. She then leaned closer to her granddaughter. “Are you two back together?” Amber saw the sparkle in her marmee’s eyes.

“It is not what you think it is, marmee.” But her marmee simply smiled at her. She left her and pulled Devlin inside the house.

“Come inside. Make yourself comfortable. I need to ask Mrs. Mills to help me with lunch.” But Devlin stopped her.

“Marmee, please just don’t worry about lunch. Jackson will come soon to bring the food I ordered.” He said casually. Amber was seated, on the small couch while Devlin occupied the bigger couch. He would love to have Amber beside him but for now, he will let it go.

Marmee went to sit beside Devlin since she saw her granddaughter looking seriously at them. She knows that her granddaughter has a lot of questions for her. Looking at Devlin and Amber right now, she felt that they have not completely fixed their relationship yet. But she knows it will happen soon. Amber will never be forced to come with Devlin unless she also permits it.

“So, how have you been, son?” She said with enthusiasm. She is really fond of Devlin. She came to know more of him after his several visits to the farm.

“Never been this great, marmee.” He smiled widely at her and even held her hand tightly. Amber saw the fondness in her marmee’s eyes while talking to Devlin.

“That’s great to know! If I could take a picture of you right now, you look like a teenage boy who just caught a glimpse of his childhood sweetheart.” Devlin laughed heartily. Marmee is definitely a romantic at heart.

“You could say that, marmee, although I am still working on it. I am just happy.” Devlin said shamelessly, still laughing. Suddenly, marmee glanced at Amber who had been quiet the whole time. She saw her granddaughter’s crimson colored cheeks.

Amber’s heart beat so fast when she heard what Devlin said. This was the feeling she felt the first time she saw him. And she realized that it is only a matter of time and she may succumb to this devil’s charm again if she does not guard her heart carefully.

“I think it is working.” Marmee winked at Devlin. Amber saw that and she was even more shocked. Since when did her marmee learn to wink like that? She probably learned it from this evil brute whose smile could not even leave his face. He looks so happy while she is annoyed at him. He got her marmee’s affection towards him. She sounded jealous but she is not.

“So, marmee…since when did you and him get close to each other?” Amber asked suddenly. Both their attention are on her now. She saw her marmee’ eyes get a fraction bigger. Amber only raised her eyebrow at her grandmother. And she smirked at Devlin who was smiling foolishly.

“We can talk about that later. Anyway, I need to go to the kitchen. I forgot that Mrs. Mills left and I have to check the food she started cooking earlier.” Marmee said, trying to get away from her granddaughter’s curious looks. She left the living room immediately right after she said her lame excuse.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

“You got some explaining to do. How did you and marmee get close to each other? You were both speaking comfortably with each other. And I can see that she is very fond of you.” She said while frowning at him.

“Well, there is no surprise to that. I am a very likable guy. Everyone likes me except one.” He said suggestively. Of course, she knew that he was referring to her.

“I am asking you in the nicest way. So, I expect that you will give me the answer that I am looking for.” She said with a stern voice.
