CHAPTER XCV
~~~
“Where’s Sophia?” Chase demanded from Valerie once he saw her at the party.
Valerie replied. “Uhh she was beside me during the wedding ceremony. She got upset about something and left. She didn’t even answer me when I called out to her. I don’t know what made her upset,”
“Go,”
Valerie nodded and left.
Chase ran his hands through his hair, frustration gnawing at him. He knew why she had gotten upset and left the hall. What if something happened to her?
“They both looked cute together,” a voice belonging to a female came, followed by a giggle behind Chase.
Another person chuckled. “I always knew the Don’s consigliere was sweet and flirty, but I didn’t think he’d fall in love really quick because of his reputation as a playboy. Luciano Romano loves to sleep around. He looked madly in love with her,”
“Anyone would be madly in love with her,” the first person replied. “She’s pretty and innocent. I wonder how she ended up in the Romano mansion. She was sitting next to Valerie Romano at the wedding hall,”
Chase whipped his head towards them both, and their eyes widened as their breaths got stuck in their throat. He narrowed his eyes at the second girl. “What did you say about Luciano?”
“He he -he,” She stuttered, looking at her scared friend for help before facing him. “I’m sorry. I- I didn’t mean to -”
Chase gripped her arm in a firm grip, seething out. “What did you say about him being in love with an innocent and pretty girl?”
They had already drawn attention to themselves. “He they -they left together in his car, so I thought he loved her. He looked like he really loved- ahh,” She yelped when he pushed her into her friend’s arms and turned away.
Chase fished out his phone from his pocket and dialled Luciano’s number.
On the third ring, Luciano picked up. “Do -”
Chase cut him off. “Sei con Sophia?”
{“Are you with Sophia?”}
Luciano’s reply was brief. “Si,”
{“Yes”}
“Come, sta?” Chase’s voice dropped to a worried one. “Sta bene?”All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
{“How is she? Is she alright?”}
“Sta bene,” Luciano replied.
{“She’s alright.”}
Chase silently breathed out in relief. “Passale subito il telefono. Voglio parlarle,”
{“Hand over the phone to her right now. I want to speak to her.”}
Luciano sighed deeply. “Sta dormendo in questo momento,”
{“She’s asleep at the moment.”}
Chase frowned. “Allora come stai con lei?”
{“How then are you with her?”}
“Ha dormito nella mia macchina mentre tornavamo a casa. Non siamo ancora tornati a casa,” Luciano said. Before Chase could ask more questions, he continued. “Lei era affamata, quindi siamo andati a pranzo in un ristorante. Ecco perche non siamo riusciti a tornare a casa prima,”
{ “She slept off in my car on our way back home. We haven’t gotten back home yet.”} {“She was famished, so we went to a restaurant for lunch. That’s why we weren’t able to get home earlier. “}
“Hmmmm,” Chase gripped his phone tight in his hand as he imagined Sophia and Luciano having lunch together. His mind went haywire as he remembered those girls’ words and the thought of people thinking they were both a couple. He had always been aware of Luciano’s feelings towards her, and he was afraid it would cause a destruction. Luciano was still oblivious to the truth that she was his baby sister. “Take care of her,” With that, he cut the call and slid the phone in his pocket as he watched De Luca walking towards him.
“Don,” De Luca passed him a fatherly smile.
Chase ignored the smile and slipped his hands inside his pockets to bring out his cigar and lighter. He lighted the cigar and returned the lighter back to his pocket, then held the cigar between his thumb and forefinger. He stared into De Luca’s eyes.” Hai ottenuto quello che volevi, De Luca. La tua principessa ora e una donna felicemente sposata. Penso che sia ora di sdebitarmi,”
{“You got what you wanted, De Luca. Your princess is now a happily married woman. I think it’s time to repay me,”}
De Luca smiled. “Darti quello che vuoi non e un problema, Don. Chi sono io per negarti i tuoi desideri. L’unica cosa che mi confonde e il motivo per cui vuoi disperatamente quella chiavetta USB,”
{“Giving you what you want is not a problem, Don. Who am I to deny you of your wishes? The only thing I’m confused about is why you desperately want that flash drive}
Chase glared at him. “Non ricordo che fossi troppo curioso di sapere cosa non ti riguarda mentre mi imploravi di sposare tua figlia,” He leaned in and sneered on his face.” De Luca, fai tutto il possibile affinche io prenda quella chiavetta dove mai Antonio Romano l’aveva nascosta e comunque tu non andraicuriosare per scoprire cosa c’e dentro Una volta che l’avrai consegnamelo a me. Nel momento in cui scopro che hai fatto qualcosa di diverso da quello che ti avevo chiesto di fare, iopromettilotua figlia paghera per questo. Fara qualcosa di molto piu che cercare di uccidersi,” He then straightened up and patted De Luca on the back, a hidden meaning behind his next words. “We both know I don’t break promises
{“I don’t remember you being too curious about what’s not your business when you were begging me to marry your daughter.”} {De Luca, just do all you can to ensure I get that flash drive from where ever Antonio Romano had it hidden away and no matter what, you won’t go snooping around to find out what’s inside it. Once you get it, hand it to me. The moment I find out that you did anything other than what I asked you to do, I promise, your daughter will pay for it. She’s going to do something much more than trying to kill herself”}
Chase dropped his suit coat and waistcoat on the armrest of the couch in his room. He sat down on the couch, and a small sigh left his lips as he remembered Sophia while tugging off his tie.
He had to check up on her.
He stood up and made his way towards the door.
“Chase,”
Instead of turning the doorknob to leave the room, he turned towards the source of the voice only to find Saige standing by the closet door, staring at him.
She was putting on a white silky night dress and a similar colored robe on it to compliment her red hair. It was obvious she had just taken a bath considering the way her damp hair kissed her skin. She scented feminine like lavender.
How could he have forgotten already that he had married her?
“Is there anywhere you want to go?” She asked.
“Yes,” He replied. “I’m going to see Sophia,”
Saige’s heart sank in her stomach, and she clenched her fists tightly beside her, feeling her nails digging into her palms.
Just the mere mention of Sophia’s name was enough to upset her. And then, her own husband was going to see her on their wedding night? They were meant to make love to each other and not ignore one another like he was doing to her. She had specially bathed and dressed like that to seduce him but it was obvious she had no effect on him.
