Chapter 67
Scott’s brow furrowed as a sense of foreboding inexplicably surged within him.
Lola’s attention was inexplicably drawn to that man, a feeling she found quite strange.
Upon seeing her son, Jasmine got out of the car and excitedly said, “Ethan? You’re finally back! You still know how to come home!
Come and see who’s back!”
The return of her son, who had been away from home for so long, and her daughter, who had gone missing, filled Jasmine with joy.
Ethan didn’t have time to catch up. With a serious expression, he said, “Mom, I’m sorry for not coming home all this time. I’ll explain when I have the time, but there’s something very important I need to tell you now!”
Jasmine patted his shoulder. “You child, since when did you become so restless? Let me tell you something important first. Look who’s here!”
Her voice barely contained her excitement, and even Dominick followed her gaze curiously.
Jasmine was blocking the view, so he slightly tilted his head and immediately saw the girl bathed in sunlight, glowing softly.
Dominick’s eyes instantly narrowed as he involuntarily walked over to her. “Lola. Lola, why are you here? Where have you Are you alright?”
His eyes were fixed solely on Lola as he moved past Jasmine and walked straight toward Lola.
It had been too long. Dominick had been searching for far too long.
If he couldn’t see Lola again, he felt he was nearly at his breaking point.
been?
Lola was slightly taken aback. She was sure she didn’t know the man before her, yet his eyes were filled with deep affection.
She was so frightened that she didn’t know what to do and stood frozen in place.
Dominick quickly opened the car door and eagerly grasped Lola’s hand. He found it extremely difficult to remain calm in Lola’s
presence.
He asked, “Lola? What’s wrong?”
In Lola’s eyes, Dominick saw panic and avoidance. His heart then suddenly ached terribly as if a huge boulder was pressing it down.
Dominick felt she seemed different somehow.
Lola’s gaze at him was filled with unfamiliarity, her once melancholic eyes now exceptionally clear.
Dominick wondered, ‘Is this not my Lola?‘
He immediately grasped Lola’s wrist and lifted it to inspect.
After seeing the numerous sizes of scars on her arm, Dominick thought, ‘There’s no mistake, this is my Lola!”
He pleaded, “Lola, please don’t be mad at me. I’ve been looking for you for so long, and now that I’ve finally found you. Can you give me another chance?
“I was wrong i
in the past. I shouldn’t have been foolish enough to be deceived by Jessica, and I definitely shouldn’t have treated you that way. Please, let’s not be like this.”
Even Dominick, who usually held himself so high, had moments of yielding.
Scott sensed that something was off, quickly got out of the car, and stepped in to pull Dominick away. Scott placed himself protectively in front of Lola and demanded, “Who are you? What are you doing?
“Sir, please behave yourself. Who are you? Layla doesn’t know you. You must have mistaken her for someone else!”
Dominick repeated in his mind, “Layla? Layla?”
He couldn’t understand why his Lola looked at him with unfamiliarity in her eyes upon seeing him, which drove him even crazier than if she had looked at him with hatred.
Dominick would have preferred it if Lola still hated him rather than this, looking at him as if he were a stranger.
She appeared really frightened as she hid behind Scott. This scene deeply wounded Dominick’s heart.
“Lola… Please don’t be like this, I can change, or you can kill me right now if you want to.” Dominick was on the verge of losing
control.
He thought that Lola might truly be the death of him.
“Sir! If you continue this way, don’t blame me for being rude!” Scott said coldly, his demeanor becoming threatening.
He had already guessed who this man might be..
Scott started to panic a little.
The man didn’t appear to be a local, yet he emanated an innate sense of dominance.
His face was so refined it was hard to look away, and his demeanor was unlike anything Scott had ever encountered before.
Merely by being present, this man didn’t need to do anything to make everyone around him naturally fall into the role of a supporting character.
That was why Scott felt unsettled.
“You wouldn’t dare.” Dominick’s gaze finally shifted from Lola to Scott, icy and filled with a murderous intent.
He harbored an inexplicable hostility toward Scott.
The tenderness Dominick had shown when looking at Lola vanished in an instant and was replaced by intense anger
Ethan was shocked at Layla’s return as well, especially since she seemed to have forgotten everything.
It was only then that he snapped to his senses, grabbed Dominick’s shoulder, and squeezed it as a hint.
Ethan said, “Dom, wait a minute, something’s not right here. Let’s calm down and figure out what’s going on.”
Dominick looked coldly at Ethan. “Are you taking his side?”
Dominick was unsure of their relationship, but it was evident they knew each other from before.
Ethan squeezed Dominick’s shoulder again somewhat helplessly and thought, ‘How can he be so calm usually but become so irrational when it comes to Layla?‘
“Didn’t you notice something off about Layla’s gaze? Let’s calm down and understand the situation first. Do you want to scare her even more? Ethan reasoned.
Upon hearing that, the murderous intent in Dominick’s eyes gradually faded.
He had been too impulsive, but after all, he hadn’t seen Lola for so long, Dominick had been worried sick for an entire month, and now, upon seeing Lola, she treated him as a stranger. How could he not be agitated?
However, after calming down and thinking it over, Dominick realized something was indeed off.
He suppressed the hostility emanating from him and glanced at Ethan.
Dominick didn’t say a word, but he made it clear to Ethan that he would listen to him for now.
“Scott, let’s talk,” Ethan said, noticing Scott’s expression and deducing he likely knew the whole story.
They weren’t close, but Ethan knew enough about Scott, making him the perfect person to converse with.
Scott had been initially frightened by Dominick’s menacing gaze but eventually came back to his senses.
Scott’s brows furrowed slightly, his handsome face showing a complex expression before he hesitantly nodded and replied, “Okay.
“Mrs. Lewis, please take Layla back to rest. I have some things I need to explain.”
Lola’s eyes were still filled with fear. The outside world was unknown and frightening to her, especially upon seeing Dominick’s deep eyes, which made her fear intensify.
She pleaded, “Scott…maybe you shouldn’t go, he looks so fierce. I’m a little scared…”
Lola’s words tore through Dominick’s heart like a sharp knife, causing immense pain. Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
The concern she showed when looking at Scott felt like salt being rubbed into Dominick’s wounds.
The worry in Scott’s eyes dissipated significantly as he turned and gently brushed Lola’s hair on her forehead. “Okay, I got it. Don’t worry, there won’t be any trouble. Will you be good and go home with your mom for now?”
