Chapter 212 Endless Yearning
Erin took the tissue that Asa handed her, and amidst her tears, she broke into a smile. Seeing how well Chandler had educated Asa and how kind the little boy was, she was overwhelmed with gratitude. She wished she could plant a kiss on Chandler to thank him for bringing
up their son so well.
*Thank you, Asa. Did I scare you just now?” Erin wiped away her tears.
Asa shook his head quietly. “I used to see Grandma cry all the time. Whenever she mentioned my mom, she would cry for a long time… But then Aunt Yvette started accompanying Grandma more, so Grandma is much better now. Miss Pamela, I don’t like seeing you cry. It
makes me unhappy.”
Erin nodded. “I’m sorry, Asa. I won’t cry anymore in the future. I was just thinking about a friend earlier. She’s also good at drawing. Would you like to see the comics she drew?”
Asa was immediately intrigued, and a smile returned to his face. “Yes. I want to see!”
Erin smiled and stood up. Then, she went to the sofa to retrieve her bag. From it, she took out live small comic books. These were the comics she’d been drawing in the Garden of Eden up until now. The stories inside were created for Asa, with the intention of showing them to him someday in person. She wanted to tell him her story through her illustrations.
She wanted to let Asa know what she’d been through during the years she wasn’t by his side.
Once Asa received the comics, he was deeply attracted to the cute and cool drawing style. After flipping through a few pages, he showed joy but also furrowed his brow. “Miss Pamela, I don’t know
many words yet. If it’s in Feirmondian or Emstian, it would be easier for me-*
His comment made Erin wish she could change the dialogues and captions in those five comic books to the languages her son had just
said he understood better.
“It’s okay. I’ll read them to you from now on. How about that?” Erin quickly came up with another suggestion to appeal to her son.
Asa smiled sweetly. “That would be great! I love listening to stories. Miss Pamela, why don’t you tell me one now?”
Before Erin could say anything, Chandler, who was at the door, couldn’t bear to listen any longer and pushed the door open.
With a calm expression, he said, “Asa, tonight’s drawing lesson is over. Miss Pamela needs to go home.”
Asa was a bit reluctant that the lesson had ended, a hint of disappointment could be seen in his eyes as he looked at Erin. “Really? Miss
Pamela, are you leaving now?”
Erin wanted very much to tell him that she would never leave him, but she couldn’t do that now.
She smiled gently. “Asa, we’ll meet again very soon. During the time we’re apart, you can continue drawing. When we meet next time. I’ll
bring new works for you to see, okay?”
Erin wanted to participate in her son’s drawing instead of being a bossy and rigid teacher.
“That’s great! Let’s pinky swear, and no one can break the promise!” Asa smiled and extended his little finger to her.
Erin smiled and complied. Chandler didn’t disturb the interaction between Erin and Asa the whole time. There was a hint of warmth and a touch of bitterness in his eyes. He didn’t know what happened that day, but when he saw the new art teacher and Asa spending time together, there was an indescribable sense of harmony and warmth.
Asa didn’t throw a tantrum. Upon Chandler’s request, Asa personally walked Erin to the entrance of the villa, and he bid her farewell in
person.
Chandler’s style of education which was showcased multiple times that day made Erin’s heart surge. She’d thought that Chandler wouldn’t respect her as an art teacher due to his status, but she didn’t expect his way of educating their son to be so proper. This unknowingly improved Erin’s impression of Chandler.
“Goodbye and goodnight, Miss Pamela.” Asa waved his little hand politely. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Erin reminded him intentionally, “Asa, wait for me to read the comic books together with you next time, okay?”
“Okay!”
arrange for anyone to accompany her as she walked back.
At 9.30 pm, Asa lay down to sleep, and the five comic books were placed by his pillow. Chandler, as usual, told him a story. Asa soon fell
asleep.
After tucking him in and kissing his forehead, Chandler got up to leave. He took a couple of steps. Then, he turned back and stared at the comic books by Asa’s pillow. Children’s comic books didn’t interest him at all, but when he remembered Erin was the one who gave them to Asa, he suddenly felt a tinge of curiosity.
Chandler walked back quietly and took the comic books.
Asa, who hadn’t fallen into deep sleep yet, opened his eyes and squinted them. “Daddy, are you taking my comic books?”
Chandler froze for a moment, and there was a hint of embarrassment in his eyes. He explained. “Asa, Daddy needs to check the comic books first. If the content is inappropriate, you’re not allowed to read them.”
With drowsy eyes. Asa murmured softly, “Oh, okay. But please don’t damage the books, or Miss Pamela will be unhappy.”
“Okay, I promise you I won’t damage them.”
Watching his son gradually fall asleep with a sense of relief, Chandler’s gentle gaze stayed on him for some time. About ten minutes later, Chandler left silently.
Back in his study. Chandler sat on the sofa without moving for a full three hours. He’d meticulously and attentively read through the comic books. Right now, he was already reading the second one. Although the comic books were small they were very thick, filled with every little detail of Erin’s life in the Garden of Eden.
When Chandler saw the main character in Erin’s comic book being kidnapped by the villains at the beginning, he felt a pang in his heart. He couldn’t control himself and thought of the missing Erin, who had been gone for a whole seven years.
As he watched the plot unfold, with Erin being stolen away by the villains, tears welled up in the corners of his eyes. When he realized his abnormal reaction, he was shocked. He found it hard to believe that he, a man in his thirties, actually cried while reading a comic book.
If the employees in his company found out, he would be teased endlessly. Nevertheless, Chandler was reluctant to put down the comic
book in his hands.
He had a feeling that Erin’s attitude toward their son, Asa, was rather abnormal. She cried and laughed in her very first lesson with him. Because of that, she didn’t seem like a normal art teacher to him.
Looking at the comic book in his hands, Chandler fell into contemplation. Why did the contents of this comic book feel so real to him?
Perhaps it was because the content was too sad and heartrending that he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about Erin. There was one fleeting moment in which he imagined that the female protagonist in the comic was Erin. Could that be possible?
Lost in his wandering thoughts, Chandler finished reading the second comic book. Then, he flipped open the third one….
Chandler stayed awake all night, reading the comic books until it was 8 am the next morning. Only then did he reluctantly set down the
final book, feeling slightly dizzy with his eyes swollen.
He’d read all five comic books.
The five books lay quietly on his desk. He slowly stood up and walked toward a cabinet, taking out cigarettes and a lighter without hesitation. He’d abstained from smoking for ten months. But after reading the five comic books, he started smoking again without hesitance.
At that moment, not only did he want to smoke, but he also felt like drinking..
However, it was probably already morning, and his son, Asa, was likely awake. If Asa saw Chandler smoking and drinking. he would surely be disappointed.
on the lawn, his thoughts drifted far away.
He remembered the time when he and Erin were in Mufrana. One time, Erin said to him. “Chandler, when we return to the country, I want to plant a whole patch of lilies in the villa-”
The flowers had been planted six years ago. They’d gone through the process of planting, blooming, and withering over and over again.
“Erin, if you don’t come back, these lilies are just here with no one to admire them. Where are you, my beloved Erin?” Chandler wondered
woefully.
