Chapter 2000
Chapter 2000
"Mm-hmm, I remember." Morpheus chuckled. "Sephy..."
"Do you know how much I miss you?" Persephone lowered her head, her voice gradually fading. "I really want to see you."
"I'm sorry." He felt full of guilt.
"You don't have to apologize." She smiled. "I'm already happy that you video-called me today. By the way, I've had too many design projects recently. I have dark circles now. It's quite ugly, isn't it?"
Morpheus shook his head with a smile.
"Also, you have no idea how strict my teacher is!" The little princess complained, "I made a minor mistake in a small part of the design, and he rejected the whole thing! I spent a month on those sketches... Now, I have to start over from scratch!
"There's also this jerk in my group who never does any work, but when it's time to submit, she wants to copy others... Hmph! I won't let her see mine even if she's some prince's daughter!"
Persephone pouted. "Do I look ugly with glasses? I would have put on some makeup if I knew you were going to video call!
"Hey, why did you suddenly call? I was hesitating. If I picked up, you'd see this ugly mess. If I didn't pick up... I don't know when you'd call next time. I didn't want to miss this chance..."
Morpheus' heart twisted sharply.
"Silly goose," he croaked. "You look beautiful no matter what!"
Persephone was pleased but still said, "That's how you see it now. You won't think the same in the future."
"In my eyes, you'll always be beautiful."
"Men mean it when they say they love you." Persephone laughed. "And when they fall out of love, that's real too!"
"Sephy!" Morpheus turned serious.
Persephone paused, knowing he wasn't one to joke about something like that. He was a serious person. Even when joking around, he didn't like saying such things.
"Okay, okay, my bad," Persephone teased, saluting him with her hand near her head. "Is this enough of an apology for you?"
"Silly goose." Morpheus chuckled. "That's not how you do a military salute. Your moves are way off!" Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
"Oh, so you know how to do a military salute?"
Morpheus' expression changed.
Persephone didn't notice the subtle change in his face. She was still immersed in the joy of the video call. She hopped off the bed, holding the phone to show him her room.
She mentioned living in the palace in Southeast Aciatic, and this building was where her grandparents used to live.
"You haven't met my grandparents, have you?" She smiled particularly brightly. "My grandfather's name is Zephyr Hamerton. He was quite a remarkable figure in his youth. My grandmother is Cordelia Irwin. She's from the Irwins here in Southeast Aciatic...
"Grandma Cordelia's family has a tropical rainforest. The fireflies I wanted to show you last time are unique to that rainforest!"
Morpheus looked at the screen, his fists clenched tightly. Cold sweat broke out on his back, his body trembling uncontrollably—a physical reaction to psychological issues.
He kept taking deep breaths.
Fortunately, Persephone kept talking, not noticing his unusual expression.
That rainforest... He had been there as a child and had seen those fireflies. He also knew the legend of the fireflies.
"Morpheus, did you know?" Persephone continued. "There's a legend here in the rainforest that if two people who've loved each other for a lifetime are buried together, not long after..."
"Fireflies will fly out of their graves..." Morpheus said simultaneously as she did.
Persephone looked at the screen in shock.
Morpheus smiled. "And the light from these fireflies will reflect the past love of those two people in the rainforest."
"Morpheus..."
"Someone told me this story when I was young," Morpheus said in a low voice. "Would you like to know who that person was?"
