Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 54

Selena said, "Why drag me into this when you're praising Callum?"

She was still married and had no interest in playing any sordid affair games like Everett. She had her principles and boundaries!

"Stop talking nonsense. Callum is such a great guy, and I'm not lucky enough to be with him!"

He was the type with a devoted heart, always loyal.

Ricky shook his head, blurting out, "How can you say that? If it hadn't been for three years ago..."

He suddenly caught himself, stopping abruptly.

"If it hadn't been for what?" Selena asked, noticing his odd behavior.

Ricky's eyes flickered with restraint, but he held back. "Never mind. I won't cause any more trouble or give Everett a chance to make fun of you, you can count on that."

"And... take care of yourself, too. When I graduate, I'll work hard to earn money. Then, I'll support mom and dad, and you, and won't let those Bennetts push you around anymore!"

Selena felt a sudden lump in her throat and a thin layer of tears forming in her eyes. The little rascal really had grown up.

She quickly turned around, wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes, and spoke in a faux tough voice, "Enough. Who can mess with me? Just focus on your studies, and leave the rest to me. Let's go." With that, she got into the car without looking back.

Carrying her suitcase, Selena returned to Moon Bay. Ava, seeing her, exclaimed joyfully, "Ma'am, you're finally back to stay. What couple doesn't have their little fights? It all ends in making up by the end of the night..."

...

Ava had been with them since they got married. She was a loyal supporter of their relationship and always more anxious than they were whenever they fought.

When Selena was head over heels in love, she and Ava hit it off. Selena found her words sweet. Now, they were nothing but an annoying reminder.

Make up? Yeah, right!

But she still had to play the loving wife for another six months and couldn't blow their cover now. For the sake of peace, she put on a polite yet awkward smile and sent Ava to unpack her bags.

Sitting on the couch, she took out her phone, about to send Callum a thank-you message.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Whether it was getting an apology gift or vouching for her, he had been a huge help.

Just as she was editing the message, she heard a noise at the door.

Selena instinctively looked up to see Everett's tall figure appearing at the entrance, changing his shoes. He's back already?

She glanced at her phone, noticing it was only five in the afternoon. Her eyes flickered with confusion, her mouth moving faster than her brain. "The Bennett Corporation isn't about to go under, is it?"

In

Everett paused, then strode in, hands in his pockets, looking down at her with a mocking tone. "If the Bennett Corporation were to go under your little plan to divorce and take some shares would fallo through."

They were always at each other's throats. Never a moment of peace!

Selena rolled her eyes, not about to bicker with him. She stood up, planning to return to her bedroom, tired of his presence.

Everett grabbed her wrist, pulling her back in front of him with his usual commanding tone, "There's a private dinner tonight. You're coming with me, to welcome Callum..."

Hearing the word "private," Selena immediately refused. "No." The contract only required her to play the loving wife in public!

She was afraid that spending more time with him would make her lose control of her temper, and possibly end in a blow-up!

She pulled away from his grasp and walked away, but after a couple of steps, she suddenly turned back. "What did you just say? Say it again."

Everett, displeased by her refusal, repeated coldly, "There's a private dinner tonight, and you're coming with me..."

This time, she didn't let him finish, cutting in decisively. "Yes, I'll go!"
