Chapter 1539: Disguise
Chapter 1539: Disguise
However, the old Simpson didn't have time so soon. In the morning, he needed to undergo a physical examination and watch the morning news for a while before having free time.
Camille was about to leave for the hospital after 9:30 am. Today, she didn't use a driver and drove herself.
Just as she was driving out of Franklin Bay, she received a message on her phone.
She already knew who it was from without even looking.
So she didn't bother to open the message. She knew it wouldn't be good news without even reading it.
It was better not to know anything than to feel bad after reading it.
Camille had learned to turn a blind eye to Preston's confrontations. It was the best way, and Preston had no way to deal with her.
Camille took a deep breath and continued driving to the hospital. During this time, she didn't even touch her phone because she was afraid she wouldn't be able to resist the temptation. She didn't want to look at her phone any more than necessary.
After reaching the hospital, Camille took the elevator upstairs with her phone and purse. She didn't inform the old Simpson in advance of her arrival, planning to surprise him.
When Camille arrived at the door of the hospital room, she gently pushed it open. Inside, she could hear voices. It was Dr. Ellis and the old Simpson.
The old Simpson asked, "Dr. Ellis, just tell me the truth. When can I have the surgery with my current condition? Or is it impossible for me to have this opportunity in my lifetime?"
The old Simpson had specially called for Dr. Ellis today. Usually, when he wanted to see Dr. Ellis alone, Dr. Ellis would find an excuse to decline. But once Fletcher was in the hospital, Dr. Ellis would come along with him. The old Simpson noticed that Dr. Ellis was deliberately avoiding him, so today, without even having breakfast, he went straight to Dr. Ellis's ward. To avoid being recognized, he even disguised himself.
Therefore, the nurses didn't pay much attention. Only those who were familiar with Dr. Ellis's office would know, because Dr. Ellis had two offices. One was the dean's office, and the other belonged to Dr. Ellis. He would usually use Dr. Ellis's office most of the time.
The old Simpson had been waiting in Dr. Ellis's office for a long time until thirty minutes ago when Dr. Ellis arrived at the hospital. He only noticed the old Simpson after entering his own office. It was a surprising encounter, but there was no way out for Dr. Ellis because the old Simpson would never give him that opportunity.
Finally, persuaded by Dr. Ellis, the old Simpson agreed to return to his ward, but Dr. Ellis had to accompany him.
That's when the conversation just happened.
Faced with the old Simpson's inquiry, Dr. Ellis was unsure how to answer. At this moment, he desperately hoped that Ayan or Fletcher would suddenly appear, but he knew it was highly unlikely.
Dr. Ellis remained silent for a while, then spoke softly, "When you ask me this question, the old Simpson, are you asking as a doctor or as a junior?"
Dr. Ellis had considered the possibility of the old Simpson asking about his condition privately. He had made many assumptions, so he had a way to respond in such a conflicting situation.
He continued to gaze steadily at the old Simpson. His words also stunned the old Simpson for a moment before he replied, "As a doctor."Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Only then did Dr. Ellis speak slowly, "From a doctor's perspective, you are my patient now. The best and most friendly advice I can give you is to focus on improving your health first before discussing the surgery."
This is the best advice a doctor can give to a patient. Of course, some doctors with shallow medical ethics would immediately recommend surgery, which is not beneficial for an elderly person like the old Simpson.
The old Simpson looked at Dr. Ellis, seemingly trying to determine the truth and falsehood in his words.
The atmosphere suddenly became
quiet. Camille standing at the door,
had a heavy expression, and her eyes were noticeably moist. However, she made an effort to adjust her emotions, not allowing any outward display of her feelings. She didn't want the old Simpson to notice anything unusual. Then, she spoke and completely pushed the door open, walking inside.
"Grandpa, I'm here!" Camille shouted at the old Simpson, pretending not to know anything.
Dr. Ellis, who was chatting with the old Simpson, immediately responded upon hearing Camille's voice, as if she had addressed him with the "Grandpa, I'm here" remark. "Camille is here," Dr. Ellis visibly relaxed. He had been in a tense state all along.
Camille quickly replied, "Dr. Ellis is here too. Are you chatting with Grandpa?"
Dr. Ellis nodded and then immediately stood up. "We're done talking. You stay with the old Simpson, and I need to go attend to other matters. I have a surgery scheduled later."
Camille agreed and accompanied Dr. Ellis to the door. She whispered to him, "Dr. Ellis, I heard everything you said to Grandpa. Sorry for the trouble."
Dr. Ellis wasn't surprised and just smiled. "No need to be polite with me. I've known your father and older brother for a long time. We're all family; there's no need to hide anything."
Dr. Ellis urged Camille to go inside quickly. Camille watched Dr. Ellis leave before closing the door and returning to the room.
The old Simpson sat on the couch without moving, his expression not particularly pleasant. Camille pretended not to notice and asked, "Grandpa, what are you thinking about while lost in thought?"
The old Simpson then snapped back
to reality and looked at Camille. A
smile appeared on his face as he said, "I was thinking about what Dr. Ellis said. He mentioned that, at my age, shouldn't undergo surgery for now. I wonder if it's because my condition doesn't require it."
The old Simpson directly addressed this matter with Camille, but the content of his words was different from what Camille had just heard.
After all, Dr. Ellis hadn't said such a thing. Camille was certain that the old Simpson was testing her.
Camille sat down beside the old
Simpson, gently linking her arm with his. She spoke in a gentle voice, "Grandpa, don't overthink it. Focus on recovering your health for now. Even you don't need surgery taking care of your body is the priority. In my opinion, if surgery can be avoided, it should be. It harms both the body and the person."
Camille's words didn't reveal any signs of abnormality, and the old Simpson stared at her for a moment. "You're right, and I believe in you. I don't trust anyone else."
Camille smiled, but she felt distressed inside because she knew the old Simpson was telling the truth.
She pursed her lips slightly and whispered, "Grandpa, don't put any pressure on yourself. Just focus on taking care of your health."
"Okay, okay, I'll listen to you. I'll do as you say," the old Simpson didn't continue the topic. Seeing Camille came over alone today, he asked, "Why did you suddenly come? Didn't you come with Ayan?"
