Chapter 2228
Chapter 2228
Yesseca searched high and low but couldn't find even a single soul there.
Her anxiety was getting onto her.
What in the world happened?!
Selina wasn't answering her phone, and she wasn't at home, not even the servants!
While anxious and helpless, a person suddenly popped up in her mind.
Kylin!
How could she have forgotten about Kylin?!
She immediately dialed his number.
Kylin was already at the boarding gate this time.
He had stayed in Agaphen City for much too long; it was time he returned to the United States to see his mother. However, receiving Yesseca's call, he postponed the trip.
He said, "Don't worry, Yesseca; I'll call Selina and Matthew. Where are you? I'll go to you."
After speaking to Kylin, Yesseca called Sheldon.
She asked Sheldon how things were at the hospital.
Fortunately, the doctor Sheldon called had already arrived.
"The doctor is in the surgical suite. We still don't know if Preslie's mother will make it. It's all in God's hands now." Sheldon replied.
Yesseca then said, "I'll bring another doctor in the meantime."
"That won't be necessary." Sheldon said, "Her mother is already being operated on. If the surgery fails, getting another doctor is no use either."
Yesseca's heart sank at his words.
So, their only hope was on the doctor operating on Preslie's mother right now?
"Anyhow, I'm going to go look for one." Yesseca insisted.
Sheldon didn't say more at that, ending the call and returning to Preslie.
Preslie latched her gaze on the door to the surgical suite, as still as a statue, praying the surgery, a success.
"She'll be fine, Preslie," Sheldon comforted.
Preslie remained quiet.
Inexplicably, Sheldon's gaze landed on her hands, which were on her knees, trembling violently.
His heart started racing.
He suddenly felt the strong impulse to hold her hands.
It had nothing to do with romance.
He just wanted to give Preslie some care and strength.
However, just as Sheldon was about to reach his hand out, his phone rang again.
Sheldon regained his senses and immediately pulled his hand back.
He walked over to the side of the hall and answered his phone.
Tremaine called for an update on the situation.
Sheldon informed him about Celine's current condition and Yesseca's search for a doctor.
Tremaine didn't need to ask to know she had probably gone to her so-called sister.
He pursed his lips and didn't respond, but he didn't hang up either.
Not hearing a response from Tremaine, Sheldon suggested, "Would you prefer to head back to Nashaland now, Mr. Tremaine? I can stay and keep an eye on things here."
Tremaine was waiting in the car outside the hospital, which wasn't necessary for him to do.
After hesitating for a moment, Tremaine said indifferently, "I'll wait until the operation is over."
He worried Yesseca would be distraught if Preslie's mother didn't make it.
He knew there was nothing he could do even if he stayed; he couldn't even appear in front of Yesseca to comfort her.
But he thought his presence right then was at least a form of accompaniment.
Kyi in quickly made his way to Yesseca.
He couldn't get through to Selina or Matthew either. After searching high and low, even driving to Matthew's office and the Whitlock family residence, he finally discovered the reason for their disappearance.
They had brought all of their servants along for a picnic.
And they had decided to have it someplace up in the mountains. The calls probably couldn't go through because of the poor signals.
"Yesseca, I'll take you there right away, see if we can find them there," Kyi in said.
Since they couldn't reach them over the phone, they'd have to go searching.
"Kylin, sorry to trouble you like this," Yesseca said somewhat guiltily.
It was Marleigh's phone call earlier that Yesseca learned he was to return to the United States that day, but it was because of her phone call that he rushed back.
"Don't worry about it." Kylin smiled warmly. "I don't see anything I can help you with as trouble. Sadly, I'm not as well-connected as Matthew; I can't get you a world-renowned doctor.
Yesseca opened her mouth but failed to put even a word out, only able to give him a smile.
As they made their way to the picnic grounds, Kylin kept comforting Yesseca.
Kylin had a gentle personality, and his voice was calm and husky, naturally giving people a sense of calmness.
"The doctor they asked for had already arrived at the hospital. Nothing will change even if I ask for Matthew and Selina's help, but I still want to try," Yesseca explained.
"I understand." Kylin said, "Preslie is your best friend. Naturally, you don't want to see her mother go just like this. So even if there isn't much hope, you have to do it. It's the only way you'll feel better."
Yesseca let out a bitter laugh. "If her mother really died, I still wouldn't be able to feel better even after I've tried my best. After all, I told the police to send them to the detention center. This wouldn't have happened if it weren't for me."
"Yesseca, have you heard of the butterfly effect?" Kyi in suddenly asked.
The question baffled Yesseca.
She didn't get why Kylin would suddenly bring that up.
She then replied, "I've heard about it, but I don't know what it means."Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
"It's a theory that the flapping wings of a single butterfly in the Amazon River may cause a tornado in Texas two weeks later." Kylin explained.
Yesseca gave a perfunctory 'oh'.
She had no interest in listening to it right now.
"Tell me, Yesseca, can you really blame that butterfly for that tornado?" Kylin asked while looking at Yesseca knowingly.
Then it dawned on her.
Kylin was comforting her with a different approach.
She shook her head. "This is different."
et
"It isn't." Kylin said, "Yesseca, the detention center isn't someplace anyone can simply go to. There must be other reasons, apart from your decision, that led to her injury there. And the reason you sent her there was because of what she did,
no?" .
Yesseca didn't know what to say for a moment.
After a moment's silence, she muttered, "Thank you for comforting me, Kyi in, but now isn't the time for me to think about this. What's important is to
save her."
Right at that, the tires screeched.
Kylin had stopped the car.
They had reached Matthew and Selina; the picnic ground was located at the foot of a mountain in Agaphen City.
This mountain was famous for its beautiful scenery, and many would often come to take in its gorgeous surroundings.
Matthew and Selina had brought the children and their servants here for the day.
It was the weekend, and the children were fussing about going out, so Selina agreed to their request.
Usually, they would have gone to places like the theme park or the playground. But Selina thought the children should have a feel of nature, so Brine suggested this place.
