Chapter 228

Chapter 228

Alex had always known that Candice had a good figure. He didn’t deny that there was a time when he

had been infatuated with her body.

She had all the right curves in all the right places.

She was very beautiful.

Hearing the footsteps, Candice, thinking it was Yana, turned her head with a frown. “Give me the

clothes –”

Candice stopped speaking abruptly, and looked in the direction of the footsteps. She saw Alex standing

proudly next to the screen.

His gaze was direct, without any disguise, just settling on Candice.

Candice frowned, quickly gathering her loosely scattered clothes. She didn’t have time to button them

up, and used her hand to cover her chest. She looked at Alex with a wary expression. “When

did you arrive?”

Alex looked away, and spoke indifferently. “I should be the one asking when you arrived.”

He had been in the room the whole time, Candice realized.

Alex looked down at her from where he stood, his indifferent black eyes revealing emotions that others

could not quite fathom. He sneered. “Candice, you’re enjoying yourself quite well now. Why

have I never noticed that you’re so bold?”

The lounge had warm yellow lights, with tightly closed curtains blocking out the noisy sounds

from the hall outside.

Candice’s hand trembled where she gripped her clothes. She closed her eyes. “You’re overthinking.

Pretending to be calm, she said, “Sonia spilled red wine on me. I just came in to change clothes.”

Alex raised an eyebrow. “Where are the clothes?”

They haven’t been brought here yet.”

Alex lifted his chin slightly. He took off his jacket, and the obsidian cufflinks on his shirt made him

even more imposing.

His voice was low. “Your excuse is pathetic.”

Candice did not respond. Now wasn’t the time to argue with him about these things.

She just hoped Yana would hurry up and bring the clothes over.

She frowned, looking at Alex. “Can you leave now?”

The entrance of the lounge suddenly echoed with laughter and the faint sound of someone talking. “Is

he really in there?”

“He just came over after answering a call. It seems urgent.”

The footsteps stopped at the door, and the doorknob was turned. Candice’s expression froze. Her

clothes were still in disarray.

She heard a light laugh, a man’s casual tone, “Scared?”

Candice gritted her teeth. Before she could speak, Alex pulled her up.

“Stand behind me,” Alex commanded, expressionless.

Candice had no time to do anything else. In an instant, she turned around and stood behind Alex. At

the same time, the door to the lounge was pushed open.

Leading the group was Sieg. His tone was not very pleasant. “Solomon has been waiting outside. What

are you doing here?” he called to Alex. “I couldn’t reach you on the phone” Sieg stopped halfway,

suddenly focusing on the person behind Alex. He frowned. “Who’s the woman behind you?

No matter how thin Candice was, standing behind Alex would not completely conceal her. At most,

others might not recognize her immediately.

Candice had no desire for others to see her current state, especially being alone with Alex. She could

only grasp Alex’s clothes at his waist, making an effort to press herself closer to his back. her forehead

resting against his back.

Alex subtly raised an eyebrow and looked at Sieg calmly. “I see you and Solomon are getting

along well.”

“Hahaha, Lex, you don’t know. Just now, Mr. Quimby said he and Sieg have similar tastes.”

“A fitting description,” Alex commented.

Sieg clicked his tongue in displeasure. “Are you guys done?” He looked at Alex. “The Quimbys are

interested in a small partnership in Dorrington. I said I’d pass the message onto you.” Pausing for a

moment, he glanced at Alex with a meaningful expression. “If you have the time, go o talk to him

now.”

Alex spoke in a deep voice. “I know.”

Finished with what he came to do, Sieg didn’t linger. However, as he reached the entrance of the

lounge, he paused, giving Alex a deep look. “Don’t go too far.”

Listening to Sieg’s words, Candice’s mind was already in chaos. She could not help but wonder

Sieg had already seen her.

“Haven’t you hugged me enough?”

Candice hesitated at Alex’s slightly husky voice, then took a few steps back. “Did Sieg see me?”

“See what?” Alex had a composed demeanor, his expression indifferent as he looked down at

Candice.

The scent of red wine on Candice’s clothes was still strong, and even after such a short period Alex

was already surrounded by a faint fragrance of alcohol. His gaze darkened slightly.

Feeling uncomfortable under his scrutiny, Candice was about to speak when she saw Alex’s

Adam’s apple move.

He spoke without much emotion, “Do you think you have something worth looking at?”

A voice suddenly came from the doorway. Yana had returned with a set of clothes.

She saw Alex inside and looked stunned.

Alex did not spare her a glance, but simply walked straight out.

Candice took the new clothes from Yana, went inside to change, and then came out.

“When I came over just now, I ran into Sonia at the entrance.” Yana said. “She had a dark

expression and almost bumped into me.”

Candice paused, her mind racing. However, she did not mention what had happened with Alex to Yana.

After tidying up, they returned to the party together. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

Half the time had already passed, and they had planned to leave early and find Jackson.

But before they could find him, Candice was stopped by a man.

Solomon frowned, scrutinizing her with an odd expression. “Who are you?”

Candice looked up at him. “What?”

“I feel like you look a lot like someone I know.” Solomon frowned even harder. “Do you have any

relatives in Solaris?”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t know anyone in Solaris.”

SONOU $1

Solomon wanted to say more, but he saw Alex approaching with his entourage.

He had to give up questioning Candice and lazily turned to Alex. “Thank you for your hospitality tonight,

Mr. Elysian.”

Alex gave Candice a nonchalant glance and then went to discuss matters with Solomon.

Yana found Jackson and told him that they were about to leave. But before they could, they were

unexpectedly intercepted by Sonia.

“Candice, we’re planning to have a barbecue. Why don’t you join us? I also want to apologize to you for

what happened just now. It was my fault for not paying attention, and I accidentally spilled the wine on

you. Can you forgive me?”

Yana marveled at Sonia’s acting skills and muttered to Candice. “I’ve never seen such a shameless

girl. Isn’t she embarrassed?”

Candice looked at Sonia and replied, “There’s no need.”

“But I…” Sonia, with her innocent face, appeared quite pitiable.

She reached out to try and hold Candice’s hand, but Candice skillfully avoided her. “I have OCD. I don’t

like others touching me.”

Sonia’s face showed a hint of vulnerability, and with watery eyes, she looked at Candice.” Candicé, I

actually wanted to go to the lounge to see you just now, but I seemed to have heard a

man’s voice.”
