Chapter 10 Some of My Sincerity
Chapter 10 Some of My Sincerity
I turned around and looked at him while my heart was racing. I didn’t know whether he knew about
what happened last night. If he somehow did, would he stand up for Jordan? That bastard wouldn’t just
swallow that dissatisfaction silently without doing anything.
“Mr. Chan, is there anything else?” I smiled sheepishly.
“I heard that you are pretty unhappy working under Toby? If you think you are not earning enough, you
can come back to my club.”
I was really shocked that Cooper was inviting me to work for him again. The pain and suffering inflicted
by the Golden Emperor were too much for me to recover from. I would never want to go back again.
“You should forget about the past. I see highly of your ability, and I hope you can come back.” He said
after a pause.
“Thank you, Mr. Cooper, but let’s forget about it. I am going to retire from this scene very soon too.” I
always held true to my goal of restarting again, and I would definitely leave this damn place.
Cooper revealed a strange smile and said, “I see. I won’t insist then. This is my newest name card, you
can always call me if you change your mind. The doors of the Golden Emperor are always welcoming
you.”
“…Got it!”
I accepted the name card while nodding before leaving with my heart full of suspicion. It had been a
year since Cooper last got in touch with me, so why did he suddenly become so flattering? Did he
really not know about the matter of Jordan getting battered to the point of bleeding all over?
I stole a glance at Molly and discovered that she was glaring at me with a hideous expression on her
face. Her gaze was so cold that she seemed like she wanted to swallow me whole. I was really
perplexed by their behaviours. What were they scheming?
One of them looked cheerful, while the other was looking really upset.
When I returned to the hospital, my mother was soundly asleep leaning on a chair. Her tired face
looked slightly swollen, which made me feel pity for her. When I put down the soy milk, she started from
her sleep. She then stared at me with a blank face.
“Jessica, did I fall asleep?”
“Yes. You must be too tired.”
“I dreamt of your father. He said that he missed us a lot, and he wanted to see our grandchild.”
I handed the soy milk and fried donuts to my mother before standing in front of the ICU ward and
scanning the interior. I saw no sign of Daniel. The doctor told me that although he no longer had any
detrimental danger, he was off limits for any visitation as long as he wasn’t transferred to a normal
ward. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
The cost of rehabilitating in the ICU was heavy. After paying the hospitalization fee totalling to thirty
thousand yuan, I almost used up all of my money. Coupled with my house loan and living cost, I
suddenly felt that it was hard to make ends meet.
It seemed that I had no choice but to return to work at night again.
I didn’t want my mother to exhaust herself too much, and I managed to convince her to go back home
to rest. I hired a special care worker to help look after Daniel, but this only increased my expenditure
further. The fear of having not enough money was starting to get to me.
Hence, I stayed outside the ICU until evening before leaving like a ghost silently. I called my mother
and told her that I would look after the child all night long, so that she wouldn’t need to come back
herself. She was sobbing at the other end for some time before hanging up, which caused my heart to
ache.
As I exited the hospital, the night sky was drizzling and the clouds looked dark. Neon lights were
illuminating the streets, which resembled the ghastly light of the after world.
I hurriedly scurried towards the bus stop with an uneasy feeling. It was the beginning of summer, yet I
was feeling a kind of creep in my heart. I wished so badly for a shoulder to lean against and someone
to listen to my ramblings, but…
“Son of a bitch. It seems like enemies always bump into each other!” All of a sudden, a gloomy voice
sounded behind me.
