Chapter 43 by Lorelei Thunder
At the entrance, Woody was stopped by a man in a suit. “Sir, please show me your invitation.”
Woody had no idea that this event was by invitation only. When the man noticed that, he explained, “I’m sorry, but there’s a classy dinner being held inside. If you don’t have an invitation, you cannot go in.”
Woody frowned. He remembered Helen telling him to call her when he had arrived downstairs, and she would meet him in person. He felt that she didn’t have to go through the trouble, so he decided to forget all about it.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
He was about to grab his phone when the man in the suit suddenly beamed. He asked, “I’m sorry, but are you Mr. Henderson?”
“Yes. I’m Woody Henderson.’
The man immediately corrected himself and said, “I’m so sorry for not recognizing you earlier, Mr. Henderson. Please forgive me.”
“Do you know me?” Woody was curious.
“Three days ago, I was with Clement at the third inpatient department. I had the honor of meeting you… Hold on, I’ll inform Ms. Helen right away.”
Kurt watched the scene from a distance away. He couldn’t stop smiling as he said, “See? I told you he’d be stopped at the door. How dare he attend this event as if he belongs here? The Cartwrights’ bodyguards are quite strong, and he’s in for a world of pain.”
Miriam said in agreement, “Look, the bodyguard is using his walkie-talkie. He must be calling people over to deal with Woody. I’m so glad I came. At least I get to watch this pleasant event unfold.”
Pamela frowned. She was about to say something, but she swallowed her words. She chose to stay silent.
Just then, almost a hundred security guards rushed to the entrance. The oblivious guests were startled by the commotion.
“He probably offended them all. Look at their numbers! He’ll be beaten to death!” Kurt was elated. He was aware of the Cartwrights’ background more than anyone.
Even though they had started getting clean in the past few years, they were once the kingpins of the underground. They had always been known for their viciousness and cruelty.
Anyone who dared to go up against the Cartwright family would meet a terrible end. Woody was done for!
An expectant look flashed across Kurt’s face. He felt like he could already see Woody lying on the ground, dead.
Pamela subconsciously clenched her fists, her eyes clouded by emotion. She was once Woody’s wife. Even though they were now divorced, she still hoped that Woody would be alright. She didn’t want to see him at a disadvantage.
But Pamela’s sense of reason told her that she could not step forward to help him. After all, they were in the Cartwrights’ territory right now. It wasn’t worth provoking the Cartwrights for Woody. Pamela took a deep breath and unclenched her fists.
Woody had done this to himself. He wouldn’t have ended up like this if he didn’t do anything to warrant this. He couldn’t blame anyone for that.
However, the three were startled by what happened next. After the group of security guards rushed out, they didn’t attack Woody. Instead, they looked extremely respectful as they stood in two neat rows.
Then, everyone bowed at Woody and greeted him in unison, “Welcome, Mr. Henderson!” Their loud voices echoed throughout the hotel.
Kurt and the others widened their eyes in shock. What was going on? These people weren’t here to beat Woody up. Instead, they were here to welcome him. It was unbelievable!
Even though there were so many prestigious figures, none of them received this treatment. Woody was just a recently freed criminal, so why was he being treated like royalty?
The security guards weren’t the only ones treating Woody with respect. Even infamous people like Clement were bowing at Woody as well.
