Chapter 10
Chapter10
I assume my resentment toward Charles began at that moment.
I wasn’t the one who made mistakes; I was the biggest victim. Why did I have to bear all the consequences?
As soon as Samantha was admitted to the hospital, she was taken into the rescue room, and soon after, the Evans family arrived.
Lily slapped Charles hard right in front of me.
I didn’t want to stop her. I just stared anxiously at the operating room, hoping the doctors would bring me good news.
However, it wasn’t long before the lights in the operating room went
out.
Regrettably, I was told to prepare for the worst and to say my goodbyes to my grandma.
How absurd–goodbyes.
Just an hour ago, Samantha had been smiling as she held my hand, saying she had made soft little clothes for her precious grandchild.
And now, I was being asked to say goodbye to her?
Lily was crying terribly, repeatedly apologizing to me and to
Samantha.
I couldn’t hear anything; I could only sit there in a daze, gripping Samantha’s hand tightly, terrified that if I loosened my hold, I would never touch her again.
“I know you’re married and not happy at all. You just don’t want me to worry, so you don’t say anything,” Grandma said, looking at me with pained eyes as she lay in the hospital bed. “I’m sorry, Evie. I won’t be able to be with you anymore…”
Tears streamed down her face, and she choked up, “Evie, what will you do? What if someone bullies you? What if no one treats you well? Who can I trust you to?” Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
“Sammy, don’t worry; I’ll take good care of Evie!” Lily cried, vowing as she tugged at Charles, demanding he promise the same.
Charles leaned down by the bed and said to Grandma, “Don’t worry, Grandma. I’ll take good care of her in the future.”
Samantha clutched my hand, her eyes filled with deep reluctance for
- me.
But in the end, she left.
She departed with bitterness, regret, and profound sorrow.
I clutched my aching belly, screaming in despair in the operating room for most of the night, and finally gave birth to Aaron.
Chapter10
Perhaps Charles felt guilty; after Grandma passed away, he rarely saw Vanessa. He often helped take care of the baby.
Although we didn’t talk much, at least we were civil to each other.
Vanessa went abroad to heal from her heartbreak and rarely contacted Charles again.
I thought my life would continue like this.
Stuck in an unhappy marriage with a husband who didn’t love me,
but with a lovely son.
But then Vanessa came back.
