“Ms. Sadler, the maids called and said you threw a tantrum and left the mansion. No matter what the reason is, Mr. Barlow is currently busy with his wed
Shane’s voice was full of warning, as if she had done something unforgivable.
Perhaps the maids had told tales and accused her falsely.
“Give me the phone.”
Just as Mayra was wondering about how to explain herself, she suddenly heard Anderson’s voice over the phone. He sounded angry.
At the studio, Isabel had just gotten changed into a wedding gown and was getting ready for the shoot. However, something urgent had happened.
Anderson stood ramrod straight in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows in his black suit.
He looked intimidating and had one hand in his pocket. There was a hint of displeasure on his face. The stylist was trying to fasten a brooch on his coat, so Isabel walked over and said, “Let me.”
“Tell me the address and I’ll tell Shane to pick you up. Don’t kick up a fuss, alright?”
Mayra walked out of the yard and found a quiet corner outside. She tugged at the leaves of the plant in front of her. “Andy, I’m not kicking up a fuss. I’m just out with my friends to have some fun. I’ll be back later.”
Anderson obviously did not believe her. Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Which mall are you in? I’ll send someone over to take care of you. Just put whatever you want on my tab.”
“Andy, we’re just walking around some ordinary shops, and… I’m not planning. on going home tonight. It’s too troublesome to go back and forth.”
“Mayra! I’ve told you that I don’t like it when you lie.” Anderson’s voice remained calm, but Mayra knew that the calmer he sounded, the bigger the storm she would have to face later.
She could not satisfy Anderson at all. In her past life, why hadn’t she thought of him as being too controlling, which was what she felt now?
Mayra was impatient and explained. “Andy, I really am out with my friends. Why don’t you believe me?
“I’m not angry because you’re taking engagement photos with Isabel, and I didn’t throw a tantrum either.
“I honestly wish both of you all the best. I hope that you can be happy in love and grow old together.
“Andy, can you please stop being so strict? I can take care of myself. I’m grown
up!”
She did not know what the maids had said, but Mayra could guess that Anderson thought that she still liked him romantically. He must have assumed tha from home because she was angry about his engagement with Isabel.
She swore that she had completely given up on Anderson.
Why didn’t he believe her?
Mayra hung up irritatedly. She did not even give Anderson a chance to speak.
She was probably the only person in Belchester who would dare hang up on Anderson.
Gordon had plucked some mulberries for her from the tree in the yard. He washed them and put them in front of her. “These are freshly picked. Is your b
Mayra had not dared to tell Anderson that she was Gordon’s house, or else she would be in for another earful when she got back. She’d also have to deal with. him looking grim, which was one of the more traumatic experiences in her life.
She was scared of Anderson too!
She wanted to break free of him, but for now… she couldn’t.
Mayra lowered her head and shook it. “I don’t want to go back.”
The sound of Emily’s voice drifted out from the house. “Gordon, I don’t know. how to answer this question. Can you teach me?”
Gordon did not reply, but Mayra’s jealousy was written all over her face. She grabbed his hand. “Don’t teach her.”
She added a threat, “If you do, I’ll leave.”
Gordon gave in. “Alright, I won’t go. I’m going to get you some medicine.”
