Sweet Revenge: Jace & Emerald

Chapter 53

“That’s all I found out about Ms. Morgan’s nanny,” Ronnie said.

“Ember Ferguson,” Jace said in a low voice, thinking. “She’s wealthy, being the only heiress of the Ferguson Telecom; why wouldn’t she want to marry Mr. Landers, who is also a billionaire?”

“The only reason I could think of is that she’s in love with someone else.”

“Ronnie, I haven’t seen Mr. Landers; what does he look like?” Jace asked.

“I don’t know either. He always avoided the press and never showed up for any invitations to any business gatherings. He kept himself low profile, and even his relatives were unaware of his appearance.”

“Is it possible for you to get a photo of him?”

“I will try, Mr. Higginson. But I can’t promise you a good result.”

“Tell me anything you need, and I will provide you. I want to know whether he was behind the disappearance of Emerald’s nanny.”

“Copy that, Mr. Higginson.” Ronnie got up from his seat and left.

Jace was left in his living room. It was Sunday afternoon, and he stayed in his penthouse since Ace didn’t go to his parents because Emerald wanted to be with him. He didn’t want to ruin their time together because their son had spent his time with him and his parents in the Higginson mansion for the past consecutive weekends.

He took the chance to talk to his detective and was glad he did. Ronnie had been trying to make an appointment to see him. Still, because of his busy schedule, his secretary couldn’t find a suitable time.

“Ember Ferguson,” he said. “Why would you choose to leave? If you had someone you love, who is he, and why didn’t you go with him instead of applying as a nanny to the Morgans?” he added.

Young Higginson got up from his couch and went to his mini bar. He poured a small amount of rum in his glass before he drank it. He wanted to find Lucy to make Emerald happy. He remembers how she looked when she went to the Morgan’s mansion after discovering that her nanny was missing.

He wanted to hug and comfort her, but his plan to take revenge on her took over him, so he didn’t. Now, he felt devastated. “I should have helped her that time,” she said and drank from his glass again, which he had just poured rum into.

“I knew you’d be here,” said the voice, making Jace look at his penthouse door.

“What are you doing here, Kyle? It’s Sunday, you should be with your wife.”

“I was wondering why you’re not calling me. I thought everything was going smooth at your end, so why are you drinking by yourself?”

“I’m thinking.”

“About what?”

“Emerald.”

Kyle sighed, looking at Jace pitifully. Although he was happy that Emerald let Ace spend time with the Higginsons and his friend, he still knew that something was missing in his friend without Emerald accepting and forgiving him.

“What about her?” he asked, concerned.

“She didn’t want to have anything to do with me.”

“You know it’s natural for her to feel that way.”

“Yes, I know,” Jace replied, “But something happened to us already a few times, and I knew she liked it as well. She even admitted it.” Kyle was stunned, staring at young Higginson blankly.

“Wait, did I hear you right? Something happened to you two?” Kyle asked in disbelief, and Jace nodded. “Why wouldn’t she just accept you then?”

“She’s still hurting. I felt it in her every touch and kiss; she still loves me and says so herself.”

“But she was traumatized by what you did to her,” Kyle added, making Jace sigh heavily.

“I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve tried everything, but she still pushes me away.”

“What about that man?” Kyle poured a glass of rum, joining his friend in his afternoon drinking.

“That’s what scares me the most. Liam had been helping her find her nanny all this time. I’m afraid that he would completely take all of Emerald’s affection once he succeeded. She might not love him, but she might accept him out of gratitude.” Jace said worriedly.

“Then you should find her nanny first,” Kyle suggested.

“That’s what I’ve been doing. Even before I discovered that Liam was searching for her nanny, I asked Ronnie to look for her.”

“And?”

“I found out that she’s the only heiress of the Ferguson Telecom in Italy.”

“What? Then how did she become Emerald’s nanny?”

“She ran away from home because she didn’t want to get married to Mr. Landers.”

“You mean, Landers? The wealthiest man in Italy as well?”

“Yes, that’s him.”

“Why didn’t she want to marry him? Even if she doesn’t love him, he’s still Landers.”

“That’s what I thought too. Being the only heiress of the telecom, I thought she would be willing to do anything for their company as well. I think she’s different from other women because Ronnie thinks she likes someone else.”

“That’s possible!” Kyle replied quickly.

“You think so too?”

“Yes, of course! You don’t know what a woman in love can do.” Jace nodded. He thought both Kyle and Ronnie had a point.

“But the hell with her reason, that won’t solve my problem with Emerald.”

“Yeah, that’s right.” Kyle agreed, “How about your divorce?”

“I haven’t signed the papers yet, but she insisted I should. She wanted to be free from me.” Young Higginson said in a low voice, drinking his rum in one gulp.

“Are you going to let her?”

“I’m not stupid, Kyle. I will do anything to stop her. I will keep on showing her how much I love her. Ace is on my side, so I will take advantage of that.”

“You’re using your son”

“No, I’m not. It was his plan. You don’t know how much our son wants us back together. If only I was the one to decide, we would have been together ever since I saw her again.”

“I am your friend, and I want the best for you. I am here if you ever need anything.” Kyle said, showing his support.

Jace nodded at his friend, feeling grateful. Kyle was the only one among his friends who stayed by his side. He believed in him when they were in college and supported his business, which eventually became successful. His success was also Kyle’s, so young Higginson was happy he had him.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.

Now that Jace is facing a personal problem, he knows he can count on Kyle. They click their glass of rum for a cheer and drink it in one gulp together before pouring their glass with rum again.

“For the success of whatever plans you have to win Emerald back,” Kyle said, offering a toast that Jace accepted. He then drank the rum again, hoping that young Morgan would accept him again.
