Chapter 55 Got A Call At 2 AM
Chapter 55 Got A Call At 2 AM
At two o'clock in the morning, Spencer walked into his room, feeling worn out.
When he was about to take a shower, he saw the notification light of his cell phone on the table in the
living room. He went over and picked it up. It was a text message from an unknown number, but he
knew who it was.
The text read, "How's everything going at the base, Spencer? When are you coming back? I'm working
now. Oh, by the way, I met Fiona in the company. She seems to be close to our boss, but I assure you NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
that I won't let her get into any trouble. Missing you."
After he finished reading the message, Spencer took off his hat and sat down on the couch holding
onto his phone. The unexpected return of Celine stirred his feelings for her. The sudden flashback
made him forget that he was married, and he almost lost control. He desperately wanted to ask if she
had been okay in the past six years.
However, nothing had changed in those six years. He still couldn't be with Celine. Six years ago, he
had been too young to fight against his grandpa and his father. Now, he was married and had a
responsibility to Fiona. His reasons for marrying her didn't matter. He couldn't fight for Celine as he had
done before.
He sighed, wanting to find out where Celine worked now. On his mobile phone, he opened a search
engine recently launched by Terence's company and soon found out where Celine worked.
The search engine results popped up on the screen. "ZR Company, the largest jewelry company in the
country... Their legal representative is Charles Wen."
"Charles Wen?" Spencer uttered the name with a frown. After thinking for a few seconds, his eyes
suddenly lit up. Ryan Wen, Charles Wen... They had the same surname. 'What is the relationship
between them?' he thought to himself.
Spencer still looked a little tired, but his eyes had become bright. He stared closely at the screen of his
cell phone as his finger clicked on it. His expression was serious. After a while, he finally found the
result he wanted.
He found out that Charles and Ryan were indeed half-brothers! 'However, why does Fiona also work in
this company?' he wondered. 'Internship?'
While he thought of this, Spencer forgot that he had only wanted to find out about the company Celine
worked for. He felt a heaviness in his chest but there was no place for him to vent his anger. How he
wished he could question Fiona right now!
Fiona was sound asleep in the bedroom
when the phone on the bedside table rang loudly
and flashed in the darkness, waking her up.
She rubbed her eyes as she struggled to wake up from her deep slumber. Then, she grabbed her
phone and looked at the screen. She frowned and thought, 'It's past two o'clock in the morning. Why is
Spencer calling me at this hour? What could have happened?'
At the thought that something might have happened to Spencer, Fiona's heart suddenly jumped. She
quickly picked up the phone and said in an anxious voice, "Hello? Spencer, is that you? What's
wrong?"
"Fiona!" Spencer roared angrily on the other side of the line. "Are you working as an intern in Ryan's
company?"
Gripping tightly onto her phone, Fiona was baffled by Spencer's anger. With a puzzled look on her face,
she asked, "What did you say?"
"Did you go to ZR Company for an internship?" Spencer asked. His voice was still loud and powerful,
almost piercing through Fiona's eardrum.
"Yes," Fiona replied lightly. "I'm working there as an intern. Why? What's the matter? Is something
wrong?"
"I think you just don't want to give up. You approached Ryan on purpose. Don't you know that you are
married?" The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He paced back and forth in the room. "I
advise you to quit as soon as possible, or I will not spare you!"
After hearing what he said, Fiona thought he was being ridiculous. She asked, "So that's why you
called me at midnight?"
"Can't I?" Spencer snorted. "I just finished what I was going to do in the base. Am I not allowed to call
you? And before I hang up, tell me this. Have you ever cheated on me?"
"Spencer, don't insult me! Don't push me too far! Do you think I'm like you?" Fiona retorted. When she
recalled Celine's provocation today, she was infuriated. She couldn't help but be angry at Spencer. It
was late at night, and he had called her only to make things difficult for her again. Neither of them
would let her live in peace.
"I found the internship by myself, and it has nothing to do with Ryan. Why should I waste this
opportunity? Can you stop making my life difficult? It's too late. I need to go to bed," she said
stubbornly.
"Fiona! I'm not done yet! Does Celine work in the company too?" Spencer asked through gritted teeth.
"Did she tell you about my internship?" Fiona asked, tightening her grip on the phone in her hand.
"Yes!" Spencer said loudly. "She has just returned from abroad, and she is not familiar with the
domestic matters. Since you are her assistant, you should help her. Besides, our marriage is a big blow
to her. You'd better behave yourself in front of her. Don't make her sad and don't bully her."
'Don't make her sad? Don't bully her?'
Fiona sneered, covering up the trace of pain that she felt in her heart. She said indifferently, "I know.
Can I go back to sleep now?"
Maybe it was because the night was too quiet, but there was still a trace of displeasure in her voice.
Spencer thought that maybe he had said a bit too much. 'Fiona is not a troublemaker. She barely
knows how to handle herself. How can she bully Celine? Besides, she is young. How could she?'
"I'll hang up if you don't say anything," Fiona said angrily. She held the phone close and waited for a
reply.
"Don't you have anything to tell me?" Spencer asked in a frustrated tone.
"Yes, I do."
"What?" he asked. His eyes lit up even though he was tired. "Please don't call me in the middle of the
night again,
Mr. Cheng," she said, yawning. With a grim expression on his face, Spencer replied,
"Your should feel honored that I called you. You are so hopeless. Next time I'll call you in the middle of
the night again. I won't let you sleep!"
After listening to Spencer's spiteful words, Fiona was speechless. She could tell that he was being
childish again.
"I see. Thank you for calling me, Mr. Cheng," she said indifferently. "You must be exhausted after
working so late. It's better for you to go to bed early. After all, you're a busy man. Take care of yourself,
Mr. Cheng."
Fiona's tone was polite but formal, and even a little alienating. However, a smile appeared at the
corners of Spencer's mouth. "I'll take this as your concern for me. Hence, I won't be angry with you. Go
to sleep now!"
"Thank you, Mr. Cheng." She was already on the verge of drifting off to sleep again. "Good night."
'Good night?' Spencer was surprised.
Hearing those words sent a wave of warmth rushing into his heart.
"Good night," he replied meekly and hung up. After that, he slowed down as a feeling of nostalgia took
over. Putting down the phone, he went to the bathroom and took a shower. Then, he lay in the bed with
a relieved expression and drifted off to sleep.
After a while, he frowned in his sleep as if he was having an unpleasant dream.
"Spencer, this is Anna. Your grandpa has known about our relationship for a while now. Since you just
came back, I specially asked her to come home so that she can meet you." Spencer saw his father
standing in the living room, accompanied by a decent woman who was smiling at him.
"Nice to meet you." Spencer nodded slightly and greeted the woman, but when he saw the woman's
face slowly change into Celine's, his facial expression also changed from happiness to sadness.
"Spencer, Anna is my mother!" Celine burst into tears and grabbed his arm. "But what should I do?
Your dad and my mom have gotten marriage certificates. That makes me your sister!" she cried.
"Grandpa! Father!" Spencer shouted. Standing in the living room and clutching Celine's hand firmly, he
looked at the two elders sitting on the couch. "I like Celine! I won't be her brother! I'll take her away!"
"How dare you?" Wayne slammed his hand on the table. "She is your sister! Even if she's not, you can
never marry her! You were engaged to Fiona a long time ago. She is the one you should marry!"
"Have you forgotten, Spencer?" Fiona came out of nowhere with a faint smile on her face. "We're
married! How could you be with Celine?"
Suddenly, Celine burst into tears, and several men came to drag her away.
Spencer held her hand tightly, but it was useless to resist. Their hands became farther and farther apart
until they were separated and Celine disappeared into the light.
"Celine! Celine!"
Spencer was so shocked that he sat up with sweat all over his face. He could feel his heart pounding in
his chest.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
There was a knock on the door, followed by Eric's voice. "Spencer? Are you in there?"
It was only then that Spencer came back to his senses and realized that he had just had a nightmare,
one that had happened six years ago. He hurriedly shook his head and walked out, dragging his feet.
He opened the door of the living room and asked lazily, "What's wrong?"
Eric politely saluted him and said, "There has been a large-scale ore transaction recently. Although the
case has been filed, I noticed something strange, so I came here specially to report it to you."
"What's strange?" Spencer frowned.
"These are some profiles." Eric handed the documents to Spencer. "The containers and mercenaries
have an 'X' mark on them."
"The mysterious organization that appeared in the last tourist kidnapping incident was named X. Could
this have something to do with that incident?" Spencer asked shrewdly.
"Our superiors also suspected the same thing, so they asked us to investigate it."
"Okay, I see. You go back first. I'll look into this."
"Yes, sir!" Eric saluted him once again before turning on his heel and walking away.
As Spencer closed the door, he looked at the files and breathed, "X..."
