The Billionaire’s Surprise Twins

Chapter 80

Chapter 80 Head Over to My Study

Frederick silently stared back at Madam Vanderbilt.

What did he even do?

He felt like every time they talked about someone dating or getting married in the family, it would be a disaster for him.

Scan used to be his comrade in this battle who could help keep some of the attention off him. Now, it seemed like even Sean had a woman he liked. It meant Frederick would most likely be facing these battles alone now.

By the end of the meal, Madam Vanderbilt was overjoyed while Master Vanderbilt, despite his silence and the emotionless look on his face, was ecstatic as well based on the tilt of his lips.

"We need to talk, Fred."

Frederick was about to head back to his room when Sean called out to him. He turned around and nodded in response. "Let's head over to my study."

The portrait of Winona was hanging in Frederick's study.

Most people were forbidden from entering Frederick's study. Master and Madam Vanderbilt were the only ones allowed to enter once in a while.

Inside the room decorated with hardwood furniture hung the portrait of a beautiful woman with her hair dancing in the wind as her wide, soulful eyes stared at the viewer. Despite how aloof she looked, there were a pair of dimples on her cheeks that gave her a rather playful air.

Sean had never taken a close look at the painting before, but now that he stood in front of it, the woman in the painting looked so very familiar to him.

Claire's eyes looked exactly like Winona's. Belle likely inherited her dimples from Winona as well.

Frederick frowned at him. "You never looked at the painting before because you thought she had brought harm to this family. Why are you looking at it now?"

Sean did not turn around and continued to stare at the painting as he solemnly said, "I have news of Winona, Fred."

Frederick's heart skipped a beat. He even forgot to breathe. It was a few minutes later before his heart returned to its usual even pace.

He had assumed he would never hear Winona's name ever again or know what happened to her.

He hurriedly walked over to Sean and impatiently asked, "Where is she now? Is she doing well?"

Sean finally turned away from the painting and looked at Frederick as he calmly replied, "She's dead."

W-What?

Frederick's eyes widened as his jaw dropped. He looked like he wanted to speak but could not muster a single word.

After 24 years, he finally received news of her, yet it turned out to be news of her death.

While he was not destined to be with her, the news still dealt a heavy blow to him.

His legs wobbled. It took a lot of effort for Frederick to walk over to a nearby chair and collapse onto the mahogany chair.

There was a lost look in his usually clear eyes. A few long minutes passed before he eventually found his voice again. However, his voice was extremely hoarse as he asked, "Was she in ... Silverton?"

"Yes."

Sean sat down in the mahogany chair across from Frederick. He knew that to Frederick, no news was good news, but he had to tell Frederick the cruel truth.

This dream had lasted for 24 years. It was time for him to snap out of it.

"She went to Silverton and changed her name. Neither you nor the Summers could find her. Soon after she arrived at Silverton, she married a man and gave birth to a daughter 6 months after the wedding. She passed away 18 months later."

In the end, it had been 21 years since Winona passed away.

Frederick had always held the hope that he might see her again one day.

"Heh." Frederick abruptly burst out laughing, his eyes wet with tears as he tightly gripped the arms of his chair. "It's good to finally bring an end to this."

Sean pursed his lips and darkly added, "Fred, the woman I like is Winona's daughter."

Frederick's head snapped up as he stared incredulously at Scan.

It suddenly dawned on him that his younger brother was 18 years younger than him.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

He fell in love with Winona while Sean fell in love with Winona's daughter. Was it fate or coincidence?

"You're back because of her?"

"Yes." Sean did not plan on skirting around the facts and bluntly stated, "I'm going to marry her. Even if Mom, Dad, and you object to it, I will be marrying

her."

Frederick coldly laughed.

Sean had always been a decisive man. Just like Frederick, Sean was someone who would not change his mind unless he was forced to by failure.

Even then, he might not fully back off from the decision he made.

"Alright." He flapped a hand at Sean. "I see. You may leave now."

Sean ducked his head and thought for a moment before finally getting to his feet. Certain things should only be spoken of once he brought Claire back to Ascalon. Looking at the state of Frederick, Sean knew that it would not be possible to tell Frederick more.

After nodding to Frederick, Sean walked out of the room.

The moment he exited, tears began streaming down Frederick's cheeks.

After leaving Frederick's wing, Sean headed toward the garden Madam Vanderbilt loved to sunbathe in during the afternoons.

Summers in Ascalon were incredibly hot, but the garden was miraculously chill. Located in the middle of the garden and surrounded by trees and bushes of all kinds was a fountain with a few carp swimming in the water. The gentle breeze made the garden a pleasant place to be as it was filled with the chill of the fountain water.

Under the shade of the trees was a bench swing that was lit up by specks of sunlight that managed to make its way through the tiny gaps in the tree canopy. Sitting there, one could technically be called sunbathing.

As Sean looked at the woman lazily enjoying the sun while sprawled out on the swing, a gentle smile spread across his lips.

"Mom."

Madam Vanderbilt just loved it when Scan called her "mom" because most people her age were already grandparents. Thus, she was very proud of herself for having a son as handsome as Sean at her age.

"Sean."

In private, there was a special way Madam Vanderbilt said Scan's name that made it sound more endearing than the way she would say his name in public.

She hurriedly sat up and beckoned Sean who then walked over to sit beside her.

Madam Vanderbilt held his hand and carefully examined him. No matter how she looked at it, she felt that Sean was the most handsome man in the entire world.

"Sean, tell me, is that woman pretty?"

Sean could not resist grinning whenever Claire was mentioned. "Of course! A woman I fall in love with will always be the most beautiful woman in the

world."

"Hahaha!"

Madam Vanderbilt adored Sean's confidence. She found that men always had a special charm to them when they were confident in themselves. It was not just a charm that showed on their faces as it made them feel like they were glowing. This was especially true for Sean due to his exceptionally handsome face. Madam Vanderbilt's eyes were squinted in laughter as she asked, "When will you

bring her home?"

"Mom," Scan said with a frown that hid his emotions, "She is already the mother of two children."

"Oh? It'll be her second marriage?"

Madam Vanderbilt was shocked but not that shocked that she did not calm down

soon enough as she had already witnessed many things in her life. "Still, I can understand that. At your age, most women in their twenties would think you're too old for them. I don't mind a divorced woman as long as you love her."
