Chapter 52 Cornered

Nathaniel scoffed and grabbed Freya’s left hand before Jacob could stop him. His intervention only made Nathaniel squeeze harder. The sharp pain made Freya wince in pain.

Jacob pulled Freya’s hand out, raised a toast to Nathaniel and said, “Let’s have a drink, Mr. Morgan.”

Nathaniel replied with a smile and said, “Sure, let’s do just that.”

“No, she doesn’t drink. She’ll have a glass of your best milk please,” said Jacob.

Since it would be inappropriate to drink warm milk on such an occasion, Freya picked up a glass of liquor and drank with them. Nathaniel seemed like a gentleman at the moment. It almost seemed like he was a completely different person compared to how he usually was when he was alone with Freya.. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

Nathaniel’s expression turned bitter as soon as he approached Abigail after making some small talk.

Abigail was clenching her fists when she noticed how cold Nathaniel looked. She could not believe how much he had lost himself in the person he loved. So, she forced a smile and said, “Is everything alright, Nathan? Should we head back now?”

However, Nathaniel ignored her as he remained in the VIP lounge. His silence only prompted Abigail to join him.

Soon, the ball began as the entire room turned livelier

Meanwhile, Freya was seated on the other end of the hall. She was drinking a glass of warm

ilk and it was obviously given to her by Jacob. The only thing she wanted was for the event to end soon. Events like this were exhausting to her. When the music started playing, Freya was met with a familiar piano piece she knew from the heart. That music was perfect for a waltz dance. Jacob insisted on dancing with her since he knew she used to be an excellem dancer. Although her knees were hurting, she soldiered through the dance. Soon, they danced their hearts out underneath the colorful lights and were met with waves of applause when they were done. That dance showcased the person that she used to be before the series of unfortunate events. After that, Jacob walked her back to her seat and since her legs felt sore, she needed an excuse to leave. She had already fulfilled her promise on being Jacob’s dance partner, so she had no reason to stay any longer. Since Jacob was having small talk with a few new business partners, she bid him farewell after they were done talking.

While she was rubbing her knees, she was interrupted by someone reaching out to her. The person said, “Can I invite you to a dance, Ms. Gomez?” The person’s voice sounded extremely cold and when she looked up, she was met with Nathaniel’s menacing eyes. This triggered her to stumble backward, but he caught her and pulled her closer to him. As gentle and as warpras his smile was, that façade suffocated her. He whispered, “If you don’t want to humiliate that little boyfriend of yours in front of so many people, I suggest that you behave.” His words were filled with pure rage and she knew full well just how cruel and violent Nathaniel truly was despite that gentle façade he put on in public.
