The Remorseful Brothers Novel

Chapter 40

In the morning, everyone got up early.

With dark circles around his eyes, Henry found Madeline in the restaurant.

She was pouring soybean milk.

“Madeline.” he called her. “I’ve got something to tell you.” Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

Madeline turned around and glanced at him. “Just say it”

“About Henry was about to tell her something

“Henry, you’re awake. Why are you so late today?” Upon hearing the noise, Winslet ran over and took Henry’s arm. “I have been waiting for you for a long time. We are going to play together today. Have you forgotten?”

Henry looked at Madeline, hesitating

“Henry, come help me choose a house. We’re staying overnight at the mountain retreat tonight,” she said.

Madeline smiled. “Don’t worry about me”

Henry frowned and was taken away by Winslet

He could only persuade Madeline later.

Madeline’s hand was scalded by the soybean milk. She shook her wrist and wiped it with a tissue

On the inner side of her arm, there were clearly some scars that had already faded in color.

Those were all from her childhood.

“Oh, playing the self–inflicted pain trick?” Lucas strolled over with an air of leisure. “Tsk, tsk… You’re moving out today, so behave yourself from now on

Madeline didn’t speak

“Hey, I kindly reminded you, and this is your attitude?” Lucas said in a dissatisfied tone.

Madeline chuckled and looked up at Lucas “Do I need to thank you for reminding me?”

“What else?” Lucas held a straw and took out a bottle of milk from the fridge. “By the way do you play games?”

He wondered, “If not, how could there be two people in the world with such similar voices?”

“Yes”

Lucas was stunned and looked at Madeline’s back.

“Maybe it was just a coincidence?” he thought to himself.

What kind of games could a country bumpkin play?

“Are you playing Minesweeper or Tetris Lucas asked her curiously.

Madeline clenched the cup in her hand and looked back with a bit of embarrassment

Lucas had finally managed to annoy Madeline, and he couldn’t Help but feel secretly pleased. Lately, she had been acting so

lifeless

It turned out that she could still get angry, after all.

Her irritated expression, just like before, remained unchanged.

“Tsk, tsk… Bad temper. Don’t get too worked up!” Lucas told her

After breakfast, they all went out

The police station was not far from home, and it only took them ten minutes to drive there.

Winslet smiled, which was in sharp contrast to Henry.

She held the map of the mountain retreat venue. “Henry, look! There’s a reservoir here where we can go boating. It must be

a lot of fun.” She suggested. “The weather is so hot, so we can go there together tonight.”

Winslet raised her eyebrow, and then, at that time, she could pretend to be pushed into the water.

The Larson family would hate Madeline even more.

Maybe she wouldn’t be welcomed back in the future.

The

got a camera, too, so we can record videos then,” she said.

While Winslet was speaking, she noticed that Henry seemed absentminded. “Henry, what’s wrong with you? You’ve been distracted all day today,” she noted. “Do you feel sorry for Maddie? It’s her own request. In fact, she may be happier by doing so. You can’t bear to see her in a bad mood every day, can you?”

Henry was a little annoyed. “You don’t understand.”

Winslet was taken aback, not really understanding what was going on. Lately, Henry had been talking to Madeline quite

often.

“Could it be that Madeline had given Henry some kind of potion?” she wondered.

They waited at the door of the lawyer’s office.

Layla and Thomas accompanied Madeline inside.

It didn’t take long for them to get out of the station. The procedure went smoothly.

From then on, Madeline was on her own. She only had herself then. She no longer had a home.

She smiled, revealing that she was a little empty and didn’t know what to think

Got what you want, huh? You’ll regret it sooner or later!” Layla held the paperwork, and her mood was a bit complex. “We’re going to the mountain retreat tonight. You should come with us and not wander around. She added, “By the way, the engagement cancellation banquet is tomorrow. Later, go buy some decent clothes so you don’t look sloppy.”

Layla continued to say without thinking twice, “It will be embarrassing to the Larson family

Madeline put her copy into her bag and said, “Got it. Two hours later, I’ll go back and set off with you.”

“Where are you going?” Layla was vigilant.

“I’ll buy some clothes, so you won’t feel like you’ve lost face, Madeline retorted, slinging her bag over her shoulder and giving her a glance. “Do I need to report everything to you in detail?”

Layla didn’t know what to say “Come back early, or we won’t wait for you.”

Upon seeing Madeline leave, Henry drove over.

“Where are you going? I’ll drive you there,” Henry offered.

“No need. I’ll just buy some clothes at a nearby mall and come bark quickly,” she replied.

Henry nodded. “Okay.” He seemed a bit awkward. “Should I transfer you some money?”

“No.” M

Madeline directly stopped a taxi.

She got

into the car, leaving the Larson family behind her.

The driver asked her where she was going several times.

Madeline came back to her senses and said the name of a prison

The driver glanced at her a few more times. “Why did this little girl go to prison? That’s weird”

Madeline was in a mixed mood.

She gazed at the scattered clouds in the sky, her heart feeling like it was being clenched by a big hand.

It was hard to say whether she was feeling relief or not.

It was just a little heavy.

Her phone rang.

Madeline answered it.

“Maddie, have you finally left the Larson family? Come back quickly. We will stand up for you. Caleb Simmons said in a refreshing and rebellious voice, “They don’t love you, but I do. And I will always love you.”

“Caleb, are you annoying or what?” Madeline rubbed her temples. “Stop rushing me. I have something important to do. You’ve been blowing up my phone. Let’s reduce our contact to avoid drawing attention.”

“So, what? You are mine! Is that embarrassing? Caleb asked. Caleb’s tone was extremely confident, and he continued to ask, “So, what’s the matter? What else could it be?”

Madeline didn’t say it directly.

“You’re not thinking of going to see Benjamin, are you?” Caleb’s patience was wearing thin, and his tone grew more stern. “I’m warning you: if you go to see him again… I’ll ruin the Moore family!”

The last sentence was spoken through pursed lips, full of hostility.

That was the style of people in Phantom Organization.

Madeline sighed. “Get your illness treated, will you?” She explained, Tm going to see Mary. She is the only person in the Larson family who treated me well in the past eight months. I can’t just watch her be wronged and do nothing.”

“Isn’t it simple? It’s a matter of a phone call. Do you really need to go in person?” Caleb snorted twice. “Don’t you dare sneak off to see Benjamin? Otherwise, he will die miserably. You should know that I’ve put up with him for a long time,” he added.

“Got it, got it. Both my ears heard it. I don’t have any feelings left for him” Madeline said.

Caleb snorted. “It’s better that way. Then, he told her, “Your other brothers are waiting for you here. Whatever the Larson

family owes you, we will make it up to you. Our family is no worse than the Larson family.”

Caleb said in a softer tone, “You should have been by our side. You won’t suffer any grievance.”
