Chapter 689
Chapter 689
Sherilyn was sprawled on the floor, barely hanging on to consciousness.
Mouth agape, she called for help out of sheer instinct.
"Help...somebody...please..."
Her voice was so faint, she raised her hand, clenched it into a fist, and pounded on the door with all her might.
Thump, thump, thump.
It was all she could manage, one knock after the other.
"Please, somebody...help me..."
Suddenly, Edgar halted in his tracks, his ears perking up...someone was there! He heard a voice!
But, it was faint, unclear if it was Sherilyn?
"Sherilyn, is that you?"
His Adam's apple bobbed nervously as he slowed down, afraid of drowning out that slender voice.NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
Holding his breath, he listened intently.
"Help...please help me..."
It was coming from this direction!
He must be close!
Edgar moved towards the sound, step by step, is this the place? It must be.
Then, suddenly, the voice disappeared.
Edgar looked around, puzzled. Had he heard wrong?
Crash!
A loud noise, as something heavy fell, making the ground tremble!
Looking up, Edgar saw a section of the wall had collapsed, and a metal door was leaning awkwardly to one side, almost flat on the ground. And at the doorway lay a slender figure, a girl!
Was it Sherilyn?
That was Edgar's first thought, his heart racing as he rushed to the door, stepping over the skewed metal gate to reach the figure.
It was Sherilyn!
Just from the sight of her lying there, Edgar recognized her!
Overjoyed, Edgar knelt on one knee, carefully, and scooped her up in his arms.
"Sherilyn!"
Sherilyn's eyes were tightly shut, she had lost consciousness.
Edgar frowned deeply, checking her breathing, which was very weak. She must have inhaled too much smoke!
"Sherilyn, I'm getting you out of here!"
First, Edgar wrapped a blanket around Sherilyn, then, lifting her onto his back, he stood up.
"Hang in there, Sherilyn!"
An ambulance was waiting outside; once they got there, she would get the help she needed!
Carrying Sherilyn, Edgar stepped over the unstable metal gate.
Suddenly, a loud crash sounded from behind! The ground shook again.

Edgar gasped for air, breaking out in a cold sweat.
That was close!
Thank goodness he found Sherilyn in time!
Even if the firefighters had arrived a moment later, it wouldn't have made a difference.
"Sherilyn."
Edgar managed a wry smile, finding
humor in their grim situation,
whispering to the person on his

adversity comes good fortune!"
He made his way back the same way they came.
Water continued to pour down from above, the fire gradually diminishing, and the smoke slowly clearing. The cargo hold was a mess, debris scattered all over the floor
Edgar, carrying Sherilyn, moved cautiously.
Suddenly, a fiery glow from a burning crate headed their way!
"Sherilyn!"
Edgar growled in alarm, instinctively lifting his arm to block it.
Instantly, the crate hit his arm, flames rolling over it.
"Ah..." Edgar winced in pain, grunting.
This commotion seemed to wake the person on his back. Sherilyn struggled to open her eyes, murmuring in a daze.
Her voice was so low, almost inaudible.
"Who...who's there..."
